Chevrolet debuts tear-jerking all-American commercial for Christmas — and racks up incredible number of views in just a few days

Chevrolet this week debuted its annual Christmas TV spot — and this year's ad is an emotional doozy.

At the time of this reporting, the video has been viewed more than 439,000 times.

What are the details?
The commercial, titled "Holiday Ride," opens with a weathered-looking man in rural America trading a faded, old Christmas wreath for a freshly cut, more robust one.

In an apparent attempt to get into the Christmas spirit, the man hangs the wreath on a set of barn doors.

He pushes the doors open and enters to see his late wife's 1966 Chevrolet Impala sitting idle, with a thick layer of dust and decorated with cobwebs.

The man, clearly overcome with emotion, sadly gazes at the dusty and broken-down drop-top Chevy and touches a faded picture of a young woman presumed to be his late wife.

The man's daughter, seeing her father's apparent love for the car and for the memories it holds, decides to approach her father's friends and ask them for help to restore it to its former glory.

Unbeknownst to the father, his daughter is able to t***sport the vehicle to town, where she and her dad's friends work together to bring back the car's original luster and shine.

The man's daughter presents to her father the restored vehicle, and in turn, he says that the heartfelt gesture was the "best Christmas gift I could ever have" as the two speed off for a joyride.

What else?
According to Ad Age, the ad was based on true events.

The short film was conceived by creative agency Commonwealth//McCann.

Three Academy Award winners — director Tom Hooper, composer Rachel Portman, and cinematographer Claudio Miranda — all worked on the project.

Steve Majoros, vice president of Chevrolet marketing, told Ad Week, "So many customers have a Chevy story and we’re proud that our vehicles have helped create memorable moments that span and connect generations. This holiday ad captures the type of poignant stories that only Chevrolet can tell. This is a love story — for a car, a family and the spirit of a community that brings it all together.”

“A special script like this deserved to have the best people possible to bring it to life,” Matt Canzano, chief creative officer of global markets at Commonwealth//McCann, told the outlet. “Tom Hooper’s filmography speaks for itself and he was hooked by the story straightaway — he had a personal connection to the story we wanted to tell and was impassioned by how to bring it to life.”

1957 Oldsmobile "88" 2 door, no A/C no power steering. Gave it to my younger brother when I got drafted in 1964.
