I worked at an adolescent treatment center as a grief counselor for six years. We had this one exceptionally artistic 12 yr old girl. In an interview, she matter-of-factly told the story of her pet lamb. One day she had been late on caring for her little lamb. Dismayed not to find it in its pen, she asked her mother where it was. Her mother said that the lamb was where she led it by her negligence, and then opened the fridge to reveal her headless pet.

Just an update.

Despite assumptions to the contrary, some h****rs (me) need automatic weapons to bag anything, though foliage seems the selected and easy target.

I am a city boy but vacationed every year in Connecticut. I went bow hunting at 12 with a friend. A rabbit was in my sights on the crest of this hill about fifty yards away. At the sound of my bow launching an arrow, it got down on all fours and my arrow skewered it...but it ran off into the brambles anyway. Twenty minutes pacing around the brambles produced nothing. On the way home we came upon a coiled milk snake and like all boys at such an age we shot our full quivers into it then smashed its head with a rock. After this docile and harmless creature was surely dead, we recovered our arrows and did an impromptu and probably inauthentic Indian dance around the body. If no white tail deer, k**l wh**ever and dance.
Despite assumptions to the contrary, some h****rs ... (show quote)

Really fine parent! I wonder how they punish her for a larger sin.

Gee, as long as they k**led it, they should have eaten it, why let it go to waste? that would teach the girl some very important lessons.
One would be that her parents have no regard for life, or human feelings.
Two that her parents are dangerous, and she should tiptoe around them at all times
Three That she should find a safe adult to talk to, tell that person just what happened and get help from that person and protection when needed. (finding a safe adult for that purpose is always risky however as that situation brings out the p*******es like vultures)
the only good thing that she could learn is where her food really comes from. Just beheading the lamb and putting it in the fridge doesn't teach he that, just the other three points. At the very least this child will probably need psychological help in a safe envioroment. And I doubt that it will teach her to feed her pets. and you wonder why some kids turn into monsters, they might have had parents like these.

That is an awful thing to do to a kid!! My kids knew the purpose of every animal we had over the years, and where they were going. Some were pets, some were food. If they had a pet they wouldn't take care of, it was sold, or given to someone who would take care of it.
I argued with their mother constantly over letting them play with Wilbur while I was at work. It taught them not to get too close to food animals. We raised several pigs, calves, turkeys, chickens, and even kapons once to show at the fair after that, and we ate them without any issues. The girl you describe had cruel, s**tty parents.
