The lack of law enforcement forced Koreatown civilians to organize their own armed security teams, mainly composed of store owners, to defend their businesses from r****rs. Many had military experience from serving in the Republic of Korea Armed Forces before emigrating to the United States.

Out of the $850 million worth of damage done in L.A., half of it was on Korean-owned businesses because most of Koreatown was l**ted and destroyed. The effects of the r**ts, which displaced Korean Americans and destroyed their sources of income, and the little aid given to those who suffered, still affected LA-based Koreans in 2017, as they struggled with economic hardship created by the r**ts.

According to an analysis by Mapping Police Violence, despite only making up 13 percent of the US population, B***k A******ns are nearly three times as likely as w***e A******ns to be k**led by the police. The group also found that “levels of violent crime in US cities do not determine rates of police violence”.

A further analysis performed by policeviolencereport.org found that Black people were more likely to be k**led by police (27 percent), more likely to be unarmed (35 percent) and less likely to be threatening someone when k**led (36 percent). Out of 9,170 recorded police k*****gs from 2013 to 2021, 153 police officers (1.7 percent) were charged with a crime and 38 (0.4 percent) were convicted.

The 48 felonious deaths of U.S. police officers occurred in 19 states and in Puerto Rico. The number of officers k**led as a result of criminal acts in 2019 was 8 less than the 56 officers who were feloniously k**led in 2018. The 5- and 10-year comparisons show an increase of 7 felonious deaths compared with the 2015 figure (41 officers) and a decrease of 7 deaths compared with 2010 data (55 officers).

The c****av***s has become the leading cause of death for officers despite law enforcement being among the first groups eligible to receive the v*****e at the end of 2020. The total stands at 476 C****-** related deaths since the start of the p******c, compared to 94 from gunfire in the same period.
