"The 1833 statue will be on a long-term loan to the New York Historical Society, which plans to have Jefferson’s model survive in its lobby and reading room."

That's not quite getting rid of history, is it? Read your own article next time...

Peaver, this is the most pertinent Jefferson quote for today:
“I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power.”

Has anyone on OPP read the 1787 Northwest Ordinance penned by Thomas Jefferson in July signed into law by President George Washington and attached to the Constitution in August 1787?

http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/nworder.asp
Northwest Ordinance; July 13, 1787
An Ordinance for the government of the Territory of the United States northwest of the River Ohio.

The NW Ordinance mandated the end of s***ery west of the Ohio River, strict adherence to Indian treaties, and entrance of new States to the Union under the Eual Footing Clause of ownership of all lands between their borders just as the original 13 states. The Bureau of Land Management (B*M) which has seized 50% of all US Land, is as unconstitutional as Black L***s M****r (B*M).

Our Founding Fathers deliberately created a national bankruptcy Court in our Constitution to end Indentured servitude and the sale of s***es to settle estate debts. Washington and Jefferson inherited their s***es but freed them upon death, hoping to avoid civil war by ending s***ery piecemeal. The Kansas-Nebraska Act overturned much of Jefferson's efforts and civil war ensued. So much for the pretense and posturing of the Democrat Party with its KKK ushering in Democrat Progressive President Woodrow Wilson.

Why are there no civics courses taught in public schools today? Oh yes, c****e Common Core is taught.

Hillsdale College has a wonderful free online class on the Constitution and offers Barnie charter schools to all races!

When I was in high school, every freshman had to take a one year course in Civics. NOT "Social Studies," or some such nonsense. At the end of the year, our final contained the US citizenship test that new US citizens must pass.

WRONG AGAIN AS USUAL !!! Taking a representation of the founding of our country away from a public
Government building , most certainly is trashing history.
Relegating it to the status of a "curio" is a hideous thing that only a Lefty
would support. You people are nothing less than a cancer in this country.

History is not recorded in art work. The sad t***h is, the vast majority of students wouldn't know who Jefferson was looking right at the statue, nor be able to read any inscriptions.

Perhaps our efforts would be better applied to teaching kids to read ( audible doesn't count ), write properly without spellcheck, and do simple math without an app.

That "history is not recorded in artwork" is likely the most ignorant statement from you yet. I have been to cities in many parts of the world and much of their history is on display through artwork. Statues, buildings, museums
of artwork depicting events from history.
DaVinci's "Last Supper" was not a record of history?

History IS recorded in art work. There are many examples of scenes depicted long before the camera appeared. Take a walk through a top museum and you will agree. I recommend the Met in NY but there are many others. I also see cinema as art in many cases, historically accurate video depicting so many subjects- Baseball to Submarines!

I totally agree with teaching children life sk**ls such as reading, writing, math etc. as a solid base.

Why is the CRT so important to anyone. How many American’s, born in America and alive today have been a s***e or owned a s***e? There are places in the world where s***ery still exists but not in the US of A. Would you not be better served if you actually attempted to make the actions of the people equal? Would the nation not be better served if male and female who decided to have offspring were to form a family group to raise those young? How does a war against becoming a responsible family member improve the life of anyone? One reason given for children joining gangs is that the other gang members recognize them as individuals. Why is that better than a family acting together to raise their offspring? How can you not reject a male who does not take responsibility for this offspring? Some few species of the lower animal orders do mate for life and care for their offspring. Many do not. By creating life why do you think your responsibility should end before the life you created is able to survive without your care. How easy you make your point by outshouting the opposite view.

The same people that want s***ery taught 24/7 don't want the t***h about who actually captured and sold the s***es to be taught. Same with the American Indian. They romanticize them as if they were a bunch of pacifists. Indians slaughtered entire tribes, they considered enemies. They tortured other Indians and had s***es and sold s***es to the Mexicans. Gonna teach history should teach it all.

Gosh, if only Jefferson was mentioned somewhere in our history books. Gee, it turns out he is. How does removing a statue erase history--especially with someone like Jefferson who was one of our most important founding fathers? As usual, you people have a knee-jerk reaction (led by the queen bee of knee-jerk reactionaries) to something that is largely irrelevant. Statues aren't the only thing that represents history and if you are so passionate about our history then why do you object to CRT? There is no bigger rewrite of history than what you conservatives are trying to do with r****m in this country.
