He was actually asked by a friend if he would guard his car lot. This is the county he worked in. Remember the Rodney King r**ts? There was an Asian community that the police didn't protect so the Asian business owners took matters into their own hands, armed themselves, and none of their business's were destroyed. Of course that's back in the day when a r****r, l**ter, or k**ler wasn't the victim.

Well, he was just shy, by one year, of being eligible for the military draft.

A lot of kids that grow up in small-town America are just that small town they don't use big words and they think most people are really nice but when slapped with big city BS they tend to be lost and caught off guard and don't react with slick precision

Thanks for pointing that out. Most young people are eager to help their friends. It makes sense him showing up.
