Sadly that first statement is definitely true. This is antidotal, but I know several families who do indeed work hard at collecting public assistance, and have for generations. There are however individual members in these families who are fed-up with the assistance lifestyle, who have educated themselves, worked hard to get ahead and they live productive lives. NONE of these individuals broke the welfare cycle with government help, but personal choice and dedication. And they will not give financial help to their family members who are still chasing that assistance lifestyle. Poverty is a complicated issue, but the first step in getting out of poverty is a desire to get out. There comes a time when it becomes comfortable to accept assistance and quit trying. And right now when you are being paid to not work, it exacerbates the problem.

I understand that. My point is, the people defecating on the street are not mentally stable. The majority likely aren’t even aware of current events let alone have any party affiliation. It’s the harvesters taking advantage of the situation and government officials who allow the situation to exist.
