As of now, we are in danger of losing our democracy. I know that many conservatives think that a democracy and a republic are two different systems of government. A democracy is a government in which the people choose their leaders through honest and f**r e******ns. By this definition, our country is both. Here are a few steps we should take to make sure that we can make sure that our republic retains it's democracy:
1. Remove all barriers to an honest e******n by making sure that every citizen's v**e is counted. Do away with the state's right to make laws that do otherwise, like passing laws that minimize a minority's v**e.
2. Do away with filibustering in the US Senate. This practice makes it difficult to pass legislation that the country needs.
3. Do away with the kind of extreme partisanship that we have today. Our democracy depends on a two party system. The simple t***h is that our two parties have much more in common, than we think. We both believe in the constitution, democracy and free enterprise.
The current political situation shows that the threat to democracy is caused by Republicans, although the Democrats have been guilty of violating these principals in the past, and could very well do so again in the future.

Democrats are doing it now. They have no interest in f**r e******ns but only in winning.

Actually the reality is republicans do not want every eligible v**er to v**e, as in Arizona they advocate making it really hard for some people so as to get rid of the ones that aren't "good" v**ers, like they are worried about ignorant v**ers considering the right has tens of millions of those that get their alternative facts from FOX

Republic vs Democracy

Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.
John Adams

Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death.
James Madison

It has been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.
Alexander Hamilton

The experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived.
John Quincy Adams

When the representative body have lost the confidence of their constituents, when they have notoriously made sale of their most valuable rights, when they have assumed to themselves powers which the people never put into their hands, then indeed their continuing in office becomes dangerous to the state
Thomas Jefferson

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average v**er.
Winston Churchill

>>>As usual, you are bassackwards

***1. Remove all barriers to an honest e******n by making sure that every citizen's v**e is counted. Do away with the state's right to make laws that do otherwise, like passing laws that minimize a minority's v**e.
>>>Yes, lets make sure every citizen's v**e is counted, only once, and with a valid I. D, and properly registered.

***2. Do away with filibustering in the US Senate. This practice makes it difficult to pass legislation that the country needs.
>>>This would only bring on the tyranny of the majority and legislation that the country not only doesn't need, but would lead to its ruin. That is what happens when 51 feel they can do anything they want to 49 including stealing their wealth and freedoms and eventually dooms any and every democracy. The filibuster safes the minority from bad laws, and forces compromises that might save sanity from the destructive whims of the bare majority, trying to jam any and everything possible down the throats of the opposition.

***3. Do away with the kind of extreme partisanship that we have today. Our democracy depends on a two party system. The simple t***h is that our two parties have much more in common, than we think. We both believe in the constitution, democracy and free enterprise.
>>>We on the right are willing to do that when the left quits trying to turn America into a c*******t dictatorship.

***The current political situation shows that the threat to democracy is caused by Republicans, although the Democrats have been guilty of violating these principals in the past, and could very well do so again in the future.
>>>The current political situation shows that the threat to freedom and a Democratic Republic is caused by some Democrats, all Progressives/socialists/c*******ts and the far left under any label.

The two party system is not authorized by the Constitution - nor is it prohibited. Our republic was designed to have citizens wield their power, in whom ALL power resides, through elected representatives. No where does the Constitution establish, or allow, concentration of citizens power in any branch of government or party.

To end this nightmare, a major reset is required - meaning - ALL political parties must be abolished and sole authority for government operations returned to EACH INDIVIDUAL CITIZEN, as mandated in the Constitution.

3/4 of the citizens in the USA do not identify as repub or dem - meaning - 3/4 of the population is without representation, a DIRECT violation of the founding precepts in the Constitution.

Liberty, I don't know where you got that idea, but the exact opposite is true. It is the Republicans that tried everything they could to reverse the last results of the p**********l e******n. They tried threatening the state e******n officials that certified the e******n results, both Republican and Democratic. When that didn't work, they even tried i**********n, and s******n. They threatened the Speaker of the House, and the Vice President, with death. Even today they haven't quit! Trump told his cult not to v**e in the e******ns in 22, and 24 if he isn't reinstated as POTUS, in spite of losing the e******n fair and square!

What about ensuring that the v**es cast are cast by US citizens? That they are legally cast?? That there are not duplicate or f**e b****ts? That dead people are not v****g. That old people or poor people are not bribed into casting v**es to get "stuff" in exchange?

What about all that?

As for the filibuster, most do not think that a one v**e advantage should decide policy. ajust say'in.

As for the two party system and partisan politics? Well, the Senate sent an infrastructure bill to congress to take care of infrastructure, but the democratic leadership is blocking it's v**e in the House. Why? Partisan politics. Fix that and we can talk.

Next!!!

Blade, Although I respect the founding fathers you quoted, but how would they know? There wasn't a democracy in over two millennia until the current era. Democracy in this country developed over a couple of centuries. Until Trump, it has not been challenged since the Civil War. I for one love this country, but would leave in a New York minute if it became a dictatorship in any form. I was born free, and I intend to die free, G-d willing.
By the way, Churchill also said that Democracy is the best form of government in the world.

Len, Democracy developed in earnest by the time of President Jackson. As the country gained western territory, people discovered that they needed each other on the frontier. Thats when the requirement for v****g changed. Before Jackson, v****g rights were limited to White, land owning men. There are several constitutional amendments passed to give B****s, and women the right to v**e. I call that democracy!
