Prices Are Continuing to Surge: Here’s What’s Becoming the Most Expensive

BY JACK PHILLIPS October 14, 2021 Updated: October 14, 2021

Compared with just one month ago, consumers are paying slightly more for most goods and services. Compared with a year ago, however, they’re paying significantly more, according to Labor Department data released this week.

The Labor Department reported that the consumer price index, a key inflation gauge that measures how much Americans pay for goods and services, rose about 0.4 percent in September. The year-over-year prices increased 5.4 percent, which some noted is the largest yearly increase since January 1991.

The agency’s report (pdf), released Wednesday, breaks down how much prices have increased for certain key services and goods, including gas, food prices, electricity, and used cars:

Gas: 42.1 percent
Meats, poultry, fish, and eggs: 10.5 percent
Propane, kerosene, and firewood: 27.6 percent
Fuel oil: 42.6 percent
Electricity: 5.2 percent
Peanut butter: 6.2 percent
Coffee: 4.0 percent

Bacon and similar products: 19.3 percent
Uncooked beef steaks: 22.1 percent
Furniture: 11.2 percent
Used car and trucks: 24.4 percent
New cars and trucks: 8.4 percent
Rental cars: 42.9 percent

Footwear: 6.5 percent
Motor vehicle maintenance and repair: 4.0 percent
Postage and delivery services: 3.2 percent
Haircuts and other personal care services: 5.0 percent
Sporting goods: 7.5 percent
Appliances: 7.1 percent
Restaurant prices: 4.7 percent
Rent. 2.9 percent

While some economists, including those at the Federal Reserve, have stressed that the current inflation surge is t***sitory, prices have continued to rise. According to Labor Department data, wages only increased by 4.6 percent compared to the previous year, meaning that inflation is outpacing wage growth.

Analysts have blamed a combination of factors for the spike in inflation, including supply chain disruptions and bottlenecks, energy shortages in the Asia-Pacific and Europe, and C****-**-related concerns and v*****e mandates.

Queen’s College President and economist Mohamed El-Erian, in an interview on Oct. 11, said he believes inflation is going to become “more and more of an issue for markets” and that it will “separate winners and losers in a significant way.”

But on Wednesday, the Biden administration issued a series of statements, news releases, and announcements that the White House will attempt to alleviate supply chain issues, namely asking shipping companies like FedEx and UPS to dedicate more shifts to deal with bottlenecks. The administration also asked the Port of Los Angeles to work around the clock, seven days a week, amid a backlog of shipping containers.

This week, Republican lawmakers have gone on the offensive against the Biden administration and Democrats, arguing that their policies—including those focused on c*****e c****e—have significantly contributed to the year-over-year inflation.

The White House also is weighing steps to address gas shortages and price surges, according to press secretary Jen Psaki, who told reporters Wednesday that Biden “has asked his economic team, as they do on any range of issues impacting the public, to continue to discuss what the options are that we can take to address these shortages.”

Without elaborating, Psaki said that she is “not in a position yet to outline additional steps we can take” and said there is a “range” of steps the Biden administration can take.

Interesting that the largest increases by a large margin are those items such as energy, t***sportation and meat, that the Greens want to eliminate the most. Makes one wonder.

I am surprised the gas price listed are much lower than ours here in Washington State. This democrat state of WA, has a gallon regular of $3.49, and the premium is $3.79. That was 3 weeks ago yet, I wonder how much right now.

Gas is most important cause all of us go out to work or buy our essentials, young and old. While gas is used for heating.

And Biden's solution is spending more money that are not available. The increase in SS next year as he proclaimed will be the highest since 1991. Our SS and Medicare has a deficit of $96.3 trillion as of April 2021.

The solution here is not spending more. The problem is inflation. Stop the inflation by requiring people to work, and produce what they consume.

The younger people paying the premium now won't be able to see their investment. They have monthly payroll deduction of 7.30% for SS and Medicare every payday. The 50% is paid by the employer for them total of 15.30%.

But with fewer people working at present and paying to the system, deficits will even get worst as years move on.

Those being paid by Biden the lucrative sums of money prefer to stay home. They make more money comfortably from the pension system of Joe Biden.
Yet these people continue to consume. Eating and using all essentials. They consume, but don't produce therefore supplies are fewer and won't meet the needs of consumers. Prices go up called inflation. Radical DEMS like Yellen call it t***sitory. NO IT IS NOT.

Unless Biden's policies are changed this will get worst. Give these people jobs, and require them to work and produce.

Biden begged Walmart , and other suppliers to have more products. How dumb this man is. Walmart's merchandise are all made in China the other foreign countries. When war comes or more p******c comes, then US is helpless at a loss to have no supplies.

And the most critical one is Oil and Gas, which Biden imports from OPEC, the Arab world. What if war breaks? Where will Biden get to power his weaponry to fight? . He'll just surrender to China, Russia or to Iran? I think it's DUMB and STUPID. Sorry for this. I feel awful saying it, but I am really upset.

Biden reversed everything that president Trump had which were working very well for all of us, and most importantly the security of our country.

If Biden stays longer, greater damage is caused to all of us and finally our whole United States.

We also need to be looking at the items that are not available. I placed and order in April and am still waiting for it to be filled. Each time I stop I am assured that I am on the list and it will be here soon. Another Item I ordered and was told it would be delivered in four weeks took six weeks to appear. I have just ordered and been told I can expect delivery in Jan. 2022. Inflation and non delivery of material is setting us up to become a third world nation. I have returned today from a visit with my cardiologist and was told I am fine except for a slight rise in bad cholesterol and can expect at least ten more years. I guess I will be learning patience.

Only the radical DEMS s***e the e******n, well planned schemes to take power. Biden and the ho are illegitimate . The whole world knows and most importantly God knows the e******n was s****n.

the US anymore. They are laughing at the US. China is so happy and testing Joe's ability to protect the allied nations. Not any more. Allied don't trust the US. France has recalled its Ambassador to the US due to Joe Biden.

Biden allows China to supply the US with all manufactured products. US is now Chinas main super-market for their products. Everything are produced now in CHINA. A very dumb policy of Biden. Soon China will take over the US.

I agree with you but Trump cannot be the answer. Look at the four years he had. From the onset he was vilified by the media. That will not change and as happened then will only grow worse if he is reelected.
I look at what is happening by comparing it to a natural occurrence. Biden has been in office 40 years. Many politicians who go to Washington never leave as they have found their gravy train. In nature when mistletoe is spread by birds to a healthy tree it establishes itself there. Though it does not k**l the host it lives off the host. Sounds like our elected officials in Washington doesn’t it. It is the fault of the populace of this country for not getting rid of this parasite by v****g them out.
I am sad that I cannot see a savior on the horizon.

Why do the LEFT h**e president Trump so much when he has done the best for our country, for 4 years of his presidency compared to the prior presidents since Reagan of course. I like president Reagan too. His economy and world peace. He ended the Cold War. We were respected by the world. He was a very effective executive. Trump was also very effective. He had a gracious relationship with Chairman Tsi. He could even tame NK, and behaved friendly to motivate Kim Jung Un to return remains of US soldiers during the Korean war. And Trump got the remains back to our homeland. NK was calm under the Trump administration. I think if Trump stayed longer , NK could be enticed to a democratic country where his people are given freedom. I think during the Trump administration, NK seems interested to have commerce and relationship with the US.

President Trump has very effective leadership. He was able to provide peaceful relationship between Israel and the Arab countries. 5 Nobel Price nominations he got for that. Yes, he is a pragmatist, a very hard working man that produces results. That is why I like him. And he loves America.

Why the LEFT h**es him so much? And some those in the right are also jealous of him? There are among the GOP's in Congress who opposed president Trump. Like Liz Cheney, and few others.

Your last paragraph shows that you know why Trump cannot run again. You said they are envious. Here is the list of the seven deadly sins: Gluttony, P***e, Lust, Wrath, Covertness, Envy, and Sloth. As you can see the politicians in Washington, D. C. have these in abundance. Trump was not of them and he exhibited some himself so for self preservation they needed to get rid of him. Because they saw themselves in him, but he was not one of them. Pelosi and her two impeachments were a slap in the face of the American Public and a total waste of our tax money. If Trump runs again on a third party he will destroy the Rep Party which will leave the US like Mexico with a single party.. Past history shows that which ever party fields a third party candidate loses.
Today’s youth seem to be desiring to place the sins of their ancestors, if there were any, on their own shoulders. They are fools and will destroy that which their ancestors left them.
