Just a note on the debt ceiling...

why the republicans oppose the only solution to overspending in the past administration..

Two things to note:

First off, the increase to the debt ceiling is largely to pay off debts already incurred. If it wasn’t clear, that’s money spent during the last administration, not the current one. Donald Trump and the Republicans added $8.3 trillion dollars to the National Debt in just four years - now they don’t want to pay their bills.
Secondly, reducing spending won’t change the need to raise the debt ceiling: as I said, this is covering money that has already been spent by the past administration. Even if the Federal Government cut every one of their programs, reined in the budgets for Federal agencies and laid off thousands of workers…they’d still need to raise the debt ceiling.
More importantly, the simple reality is that the United States is not only in the middle of an economic recession (one started during the Trump Administration), but the reality is that it’s sitting on an aging (and in some cases, failing) infrastructure, and is in dire need of both economic stimulus (to boost the economy directly) and infrastructure upgrades. You cannot accomplish either one by spending no money.

If I’m being blunt, the Federal Government must honour her financial agreements (since to fail to raise the debt ceiling means that the government will default on her loans), and more importantly, must invest in the US economy if it is to recover from the financial black hole it was fired into at terminal velocity during the previous administration.

As is often remarked among entrepreneurs, sometimes you have to spend money to make money. This is now the case: absent stimulus, the US economy will take decades to recover, and a lack of infrastructure spending will see bridges collapsing, roads becoming unusable, and more incidents such as we saw in Texas, with a power grid failing purely due to the weather. The US can’t afford not to spend money to bolster that.

Sadly, the Republicans have long realised that most of the e*****rate won’t pay enough attention to what goes on in Washington, so they’re able to sell the lie that raising the debt ceiling is a consequence of Democratic spending, and not due to the $8.3 trillion dollars they spent over the past four years.

LOL

And another ELWNJ blames President Trump for everything: Hurricaines, earthquakes, Chuck Norris losing a fight. Try having an original thought once in a while.

OH NO,,, if Chuck lost we are done for... The darkness awaits us..

On a real note, It was not blame by me, only a repetition of facts and near past history..

But the sad point is the refusal of republicans to ever pay for the spending they put on the plate.. let alone anything else.. pay or do not play..

Oh horse hockey.

Both parties are to blame - it's just the democrats are far worse at spending.

Nearly 1/4 of Trumps supposed debt, 1.9 trillion, was passed and spent by democrats in the partisan Feb 2021 c***d relief bill. The c***d recovery is doing just fine and will do better once the democrats lighten up on scare tactics and get out of the way of the American spirit. Spare me the blame the Republicans rhetoric. All additional government tax and spend will do is create hyperinflation and a weak private sector economy.

Republicans are all financial responsibility when Democrats are in power, but they cut taxes and spend like drunken sailors when they are in power.

I have no problem with Americans keeping more of their own money instead of it being taxed and confiscated by the government.

As far as Republicans spending like drunken sailors, many RINOs go alone with the democrat spending bills and block fiscally responsible Republicans from cutting spending. In Trumps first year in office he tried to cut spending and the democrats and RINOs shut down the government and then blamed Trump for the shut down until he caved on the budget. You conveniently forget or ignore that fact. You are correct though. Too many Republicans do spend like democrats.

Not sure how you came to that conclusion from my reply to kemmer post, but, you are welcome to see things in any warped way you want. It's still a free country, for now.

Good thing Obama didn’t run up the debt, eh? There is no ceiling and never will be. It’s other people’s money those public servants in Washington are spending. When they run out of that they will crank up the presses. China will make sure they don’t run out of paper and ink.
