Meanwhile, Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota, supports legislation requiring a high school senior to pass the US citizenship test before they are given a diploma. Many decades ago, when I was a freshman in high school, a year of Civics was required. Our final was, in part, the US citizenship test.

Years ago, my daughter was taking an online version of the citizenship test. She said she didn't do well on it and started asking me the questions. I was answering, correctly, before she gave me all the answer options. I was removing my cold weather gear after doing the farm chores while she asked me the questions. She couldn't believe I knew the answers since I hadn't been in school for almost 30 years.
