You are totally correct but the Greatest Generation is mostly all gone. The Korean War is a forgotten war and no one ever talks about it. The Viet Nam War was a war where the Patriotic American’s did their duty while the ones who have created the mess of today protested and abandoned the American ideals of their fathers. The War in Afghanistan was a defeat as the US Army dropped it weapons and ran away from the field. US Politicians live better than most of the population except the extremely rich. US Politicians get a big salary in comparison to average citizens. US Politicians get living allowances and travel allowances that are justified as fact finding junkets. US Politicians are able to purchase stocks in a manner that would send the rest of us to jail. US Politicians do not need personal weapons as they can hire armed protectors. They are living the life of the Kings in your first sentence.
The government each and every year in April gives me and the other tax paying citizens a tax refund which each and every one of us joyously accept. Most never take the time to see that we have over paid our taxes and are getting nothing from the government that is not already ours. Most recently our government ran the printing presses over time and gave each of us something called stimulus money. Actually there was nothing to back up the money being printed however we rejoiced that our government was taking such good care of us. I you or I had run those printing presses we would be in the dungeon of the castle for counterfeiting money.
We have not lived in a free country ever since the our government began flying satellites in orbit over our land. They know and can identify every building and plant on the property you think you own. Cameras at traffic lights, cameras in shopping centers, citizens taking pictures of us without permission, cars, trucks, and tractors that are controlled by computers and which only certified technicians from the manufacturer are allowed to repair are just a few of the things we have given up in the search for security we now have in our lives.
However, we can still enjoy a sunrise or sunset. The stars still shine in the sky. The wind cools us on a hot day and the shade of a tree is comforting.
