The un-United States of America

The following is a re-posting from 2015. Kudos to the original poster...(not me)

There was a time in this country, when our differences were what made us strong and resilient. We saw the differences, but made nothing of them, and focused on those things that were similar, such as a desire to succeed. There have always been those who wanted to focus on the differences and try to get everyone to do so as well and occasionally, they were successful, but those instances are generally considered shameful.

Having a variety of experiences, backgrounds and philosophies, are what make for a vibrant and productive society. For every problem, someone had a solution and those groups willing to embrace those solutions, regardless of their provenance - succeeded. Those groups unwilling to accept a solution, BECAUSE of it's provenance - inevitably failed.

In America today, we have allowed ourselves to be distracted by differences, to the exclusion of our similarities and that will be our downfall. What is even more distressing, is that many groups have fallen prey to the idea that "inclusion" means "requiring differences to be accentuated". As an example, the idea that calling one's self "African American", is a way to enhance one's cultural heritage. It does nothing for one's heritage, it DOES, in fact, impact on one's future. It is a declaration that one is "African" first and "American" second. Which then separates those individuals from everyone else, thus "un-uniting" them.

We have separated ourselves along racial lines, by political philosophy, economic status, location, familial connections and any number of other differences and are PROUD of it. It is one thing to enjoy and take p***e in one's "roots", so to speak, but it is another to insist that one be forever identified as that - to the exclusion of being a citizen of the Untied States. One CANNOT be "part of" as long as one refuses to be identified as being such. There is no such thing as a Republican ( insert anything you like here ) electrician - yet - there are many who wish to be identified as that very thing.

We have been lead to believe that accentuating our differences is what makes us unique, but that is false, our uniqueness is built in from birth and requires NO enhancement, only acceptance in our own minds. We are un-uniting ourselves, in a fruitless bid to belong to something, by identifying ourselves as different and requiring everyone else to identify us that way.

Until we re-learn to enhance and accentuate our similarities, in our hearts and minds, we will continue to be un-united and fail in all our undertakings. Our differences are what give us the ability to succeed, but ONLY IF, they are secondary to our similar goals, hopes, dreams and purpose. Looking for, identifying and embracing our similarities, will give us the ability and focus to capitalize on those differences that point out solutions to our common problems. For now, we each separate entity, focus on our separate problems - and refuse to work together for any common good. Why? Because our problems are unique and are caused by THEM. If everyone were like US, there'd be no problems. That would work, if there weren't a hundred different US's and THEM's - each expecting the OTHERS to comply and compromise.

Thank you for this post. It’s time, I believe, we drop the “-“ American and just accept and understand we are all Americans.

We have never changed. The Left and RINOs did, and it was planned. Since they're losing on every front, they now want to play nice after murdering millions of our children, cops, firemen, and military. I say No! It's too late to say you're sorry. We already knew that.

We could have lived in peace but you're control freaks, and think you're superior. Time to hang t*****rs who tried to sell our nation down the river. Withhold water from farmers, spray chem-trails on us without our consent and keep way too many secrets from, We the people. The rightful owners of this nation.

It's time to restore our nation and our God-given rights. The Constitution isn't written in Latin and it's easy to understand. No excuse for trying to alter it. T*****rs are the only word left that makes sense. And justice for t*****rs is h*****g and death.

They even stole our v**es and our ability to elect who we chose. Just think of the word 'D******n', it explains it all. They don't want to serve us, they want D******n over us. Only Christians and Conservatives get punished. The l*****ts, r****rs, and l**ters get a free pass.

The left still wants to k**l a beating heart. Even if it's born alive. You can't help people like that. They're a c*******t, f*****t, Marxist, death cult. Those are the tools for gaining control and destroying nations. I say, NO MORE.

Remove the problem markers and there will be fewer problems... Duh?

A good article as it applies to things like race, g****r, cultures, religions, etc along those lines.

But I don't thing political differences are applicable to the authors intent.

I met a guy from Sarasota Fla this past week. His views are a true reflection of what one hears of the world on CNN; there is no southern border problem now made worse buy Biden, the withdraw from Cabul was a great success which went smooth and by the numbers, people who question things like e******n results and c***d v*****es are crazy loons, gov is the solution to all problems as long as it is gov left, Trump was a destroyer of democracy, Milley would have been acting appropriately by telling China of our plans to react to things they should not do or should not have done, we must stop all CO2 emissions to save the planet no matter how it ruins our country, information contrary to anything they believe should be stiffled and canceled.

This guy literally laughed at the suggestion that any of the above might not be taken as gospel. Anything and everything which contradicts the CNN standard was laughable disinformation.

If our information continues to be manipulated as it is now, we cannot fix America.

Political differences are absolutely applicable. We have arrived at an "all or nothing" crossroad, where we refuse to even acknowledge the legitimacy of anyone else's viewpoint or belief, demanding the "we" get to tell everyone else what's going to be important to them. Our critical goals should be the same or similar, with the "how do we get there" question the only debate.

When we stop debating and devolve to demanding....................the die has been cast that will result in our downfall.

I stand by my position. When people beliefs are being manipulated by the media, there can be no middle ground. A person's race or g****r are not manipulable, but the t***h of what's going on in the world can be. If I think I'm being lied to why would I compromise with that??

Thank you for that article. I thought about how we and our language have changed so much lately. Theodore Roosevelt (R) and Woodrow Wilson (D) both disliked hyphenated Americans as a description of a person. A century and more ago the use of a hyphenated name was a slur on the person so named. It is strange that now it is an honor to be so called. Somehow someone needs to see that we are creating our own division among ourselves.
I worked for YMCA camp as a summer staff during high school and in college. I worked for a YMCA Branch during the winter while in college and learned that kids are actually not very prejudice. It seems to me that it takes adults to teach the kids prejudices. Kids mostly wanted to have fun.
