Never forget the dozens of bloody, crying firemen ... (
Never forget that the 9/11 Conspiracy in all of its variations, versions, and contradictions is a closed system that feeds on itself. Because it occurred in the Internet era, the 9/11 World Trade Center attack is the one historical event that has generated more conspiracy theories than the Kennedy assassination. There are tons of equally crazy variations of the theory, but they all come down to the curious way the towers fell.
Conspiracy theorists say the buildings fell at "free-fall speed," meaning that they didn't just slowly crumble away or tip over like you might expect, but that the whole damn things just fell down at once, like a house of cards. That, they say, proves that the towers were wired with explosives by the U.S. government. Why else would sturdy skyscrapers just collapse in a puff of smoke like that?
The Simple Misunderstanding:
When somebody tells you that the towers fell at "free-fall speed," they're more or less pulling that out of their ass. Or at least, they're referencing some other conspiracy theorists who pulled it out of their ass. They're not referencing any kind of scientific theory or measurement; they're just timing the fall as they watch YouTube videos and declaring that it looks different from how it plays out in their imagination. In other words, they don't actually know what they mean by "free fall" except that the buildings seem to be falling more quickly than they'd expect from the almost certainly zero controlled demolitions they've seen before.
Most of the video of the actual collapse is filmed in Cloverfield-style shaky-cam, but if you watch any of the still-camera footage, you can debunk the free-fall claim simply from the fact that there's debris coming off the tower that's falling faster than the tower is. We've known that objects free fall at the same speed ever since Galileo dropped some balls off the Leaning Tower of Pisa, so that more or less puts the kibosh on the whole free-fall business.
Part of the problem is that the Twin Towers were basically big, featureless rectangles that made it look like the whole thing was falling at once. Conspiracy theorists like Rosie O'Donnell like to rattle off statistics like how the towers fell in nine seconds, which just happens to be free-fall speed. But nine seconds is more likely the amount of time that Rosie put into researching the issue, because if she'd actually timed the collapse, she would have found that the towers took about 15 and 22 seconds to collapse, well short of free-fall speed. But then, that's why very few engineering graduates cite Rosie O'Donnell as a source.
Commercial jets, weighing around 130 tons and fully loaded with fuel and people were flown at cruising speeds straight through those buildings causing catastrophic damage that compromised the support structures and set fire to tons of combustible office contents. The subsequent fires burned hot enough to weaken the steel of the already damaged support columns. Eventually the warped, weakened steel buckled and failed and the building collapsed.
The South Tower was struck around thirty minutes after the North Tower was hit, and the reason Tower 2 was first to collapse is because the building's mass above the impact zone was twice that of the mass above the impact zone in Tower 1. 30 floors weighing 136,000 tons compared to 15 floors weighing 68,000 tons. Makes sense, logical.
A HS physics teacher name of David Chandler was one of the A&E truthers' "science experts". He picked a video of Tower 1's collapse and narrated his version of what was happening.
Apart from his assertion that the collapse achieved free fall velocity - (which it didn't, only the debris ejected off the building was in free fall) - and apart from his assertion that the random puffs of smoke blowing at subsonic velocities out of the building were explosive detonations - "squibs", he called them - (which were actually the result of air trapped under the falling mass being pressurized, like in a piston, to the point it blew out a window.)
Apart from that, he invoked Newton's Laws of Motion and totally butchered them.
"For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction", Chandler quoted, then he went on to explain.
The mass of the upper block of Tower 1 (68,000 tons) had the potential energy and weight to crush a block of equal mass. IOW, according to this expert, the "down crush" imposed by the upper block of 15 floors and the "up crush" imposed by the lower block of 15 floors cancelled each other out - an equal mass for an equal mass - and once they did this, the remaining 80 floors would remain standing, so they had to use explosives to bring those down.
Somebody should have asked high school physics teacher Chandler, "Where did the 136,000 tons of concrete, steel and floors and pipes and cables and wires and toilets and elevators and stair wells and offices and people that supposedly up and down crushed each other go?"
Disappeared off the face of the earth, I suppose.
I would have asked him, Where in the hell did physics teacher Chandler learn physics?
Newton's law does not state "for every mass there is an equal and opposite remass, it doesn't state "for every weight there is an equal and opposite reweight. An action has neither mass nor weight.
And, what physics teacher Chandler did with Flight 77 and the Pentagon was a real doozy.
Incidentally, those jets that crashed into the towers and the Pentagon were flown by Al Qaeda terrorists who hijacked the jets, killed the pilots, and took control.
