In a city near where I live and where I do much shopping, a 1% sales tax is due to expire. The sales tax was v**ed in to pay for a new jail, but that is now paid for. The city is now having a contest to determine what to spend the money on, to keep the sales tax. I asked the Mayor why they don't just let it expire and save people the money. The answer was " once people have become used to paying a tax, it doesn't make sense to let that money go"
When I asked what they would do, if another project came up that was vital, but they had already spent the tax on something else, the Mayor said that they would simply go to the council - and ask for more tax. Which I assume would also become permanent. Well, who would a thunk?
Typical politician, just a stupid kid in an ice cream factory sick to his stomach and wondering why.
