toughest old lady I know..

down the road a bit, we have a neighbor who has lost her hubby, 2 kids, 3 sisters and a brother..

She has a little bit of trouble getting around so my wife has taken her shopping each week for a couple of years.. While a passenger in wife car, it got totaled back in 2018, she never knew they had been in an accident..

But as things tends to do, she got some other problems with her eye, she got an "ulcer" in her right eye, it burst and the decided to remove it.. after waiting for over a month for the occasion, last Friday she got the surgery and they removed her eye. as an out patient.

Living just down the road and only a son to tend her a bit. My wife has gone up and cked on her and talked with her.. said the old gal is grumpy and in a bad mood but other wise claims to be OK..

today the wife went to her quilting group at the church and got 3 quilts done and gone.. they only "tie" the quilts wh**ever that is.. these are Freedom Quilts, while I do not think many are used in the ME, they are sent by the 1000s to all sorts of groups, but mostly military and refugees. been doing so for years and just got back on track last march or so..

But she stopped to see her friend and the old lady who eye was removed last Friday, insisted she bring home a cake for being such a helper to her... this old lady is 94 years old... what a brave lady she is..

And to me, as well. Also, a deep bow and heartfelt kudos to your wife's contribution. A most noble enterprise!

she is a real treasure.. and we are glad to know her.. she has always been a very active lady but until a few years ago she had a group of friends that she did every thing with..

She told my wife she could not help in the huge garden but she could , would and has canned and prepared the crops..

I have to say, that it surprised me how well the quilt idea went over.. across the nation lot groups doing the same.. not as a single group but all doing the work and sending box after box out as needed.. and fast, wifes group of a couple dozen have sent out hundreds of them and add in all the other groups working, they are becoming a sort of symbol or something.. much appreciation has been sent as cards and letters and email..

Reminds me of my mother. 85 years old and in the first stages of dementia. I'm the oldest retired from the Army, my sisters are still working. My wife and dad have passed, so I decided to move back home after 40 years to take care of mom and keep the homestead up. She can be a blister sometimes but most of the time she is very easy to care for. When she wants or needs something, it's right now. But growing up it was the same way. Just say yes mom and do it, same as when I was young.

She is the greatest mother. Being the oldest I remember the hard times. She and dad would sometimes work two jobs just to make ends meet. From the time I was 14 through high school, able to make money I payed my own way. Clothes, school books, wh**ever. That helped them give more to my sisters and the family.
