Michael Cohen’s a great example: he committed criminal acts at Trump’s behest, and ended up in prison, but Trump himself was able to distance himself from Cohen’s actions sufficiently that he didn’t end up indicted himself. We’ll see the same with Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Lin Wood and a whole host of others: Trump uses other people to commit crimes, and then feeds them to the wolves, avoiding the consequences himself.
We saw this on J****** 6th: Trump had spent months winding up the e*****rate with disinformation and lies, then drew his supporters to Washington on the day that Congress was meeting in joint session to certify the e******n, and further provoked them, claiming:
“And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
That ultimately provoked his supporters to a violent act of i**********n against the United States, but left Trump with enough distance between himself and their actions that he couldn’t be folded in as a co-conspirator. He had just enough space that he could say “I didn’t tell them to do that!”. This is how Trump prefers to work: he will actively push others to commit crimes, but won’t himself be caught breaking the law openly.
