But that does not mean they are required to be allowed into the United States. They can wait right there till their hearing date.

You are partially correct Kevyn. Those wishing to claim asylum must go to the legal ports of entry. The Southern Boarder is not one of them. Besides Kevyn, if I or anyone else here on OPP were to go to your home and DEMANDED entry to your secure home, what would you do with 300 people you have no idea of who they are? Not family or close friends just complete strangers Kevyn. I would say that both you and I and he rest of us here would rightfully freak out RIGHT?

Actually tens of thousands and their families are being moved to safe third nations while the state department vets them for residency.

The difference is a technical but legal one having to do with land vs sea borders. If a Cuban comes by boat and is intercepted by the Coast Guard or Navy at sea they have not reached our border and can be turned back. If that same Cuban travels to Canada and crosses our land border they are legally entitled to request asylum and can stay in the US either in detention or released on bond until they get a hearing.

We have lots of old bases around the US and many still have barracks and chow halls. Camp Bullis is north of San Antonio and could hold thousands in tents. I spent five weeks there for training and later to upgrade the tents with concrete slabs (that place was rattlesnake heaven), an interior frame so the tent pegs could be removed, and screen doors. We even built the obstacle course and were the first ones to use it, just for fun.
