The Worst President in History

Which US president proved to be the most dangerous to the security of the country, and why?

Not one of our most famous Presidents but by far our worst. Our 15th President James Buchanan (D-Pennsylvania) was President directly before the Civil War, the most deadly time in American History in which more than 750,000 died. Most scholars agree that he helped create the perfect storm for South Carolina and other states to secede.

One of the worst US presidents in history wasn't just incompetent — it was his beliefs that led to failure.

James Buchanan is ranked as one of the worst presidents in history, but some historians think he was more than just incompetent.

He was known as ‘The Great Equivocator’ and tried to please both sides with empty rhetoric while letting the pernicious institution of s***ery expand. Here are some of the worst things he did:

Supported the Dred Scott verdict, which labeled B***k A******ns as less than human and prolonged the chattel s***e trade.
Sent the Marines to capture and execute the members of an anti-s***ery rebel group.
Lobbied for Kansas to adopt s***ery.
Refused to discourage violence between Nebraskan ‘Free Staters’ and Kansan ‘Border Ruffians’, leaving more than 300 dead.
Did not attempt to block seven states from seceding from the Union, encouraging four more to do the same.

The Civil War was the closest our country has ever come to falling apart and James Buchanan made it much, much worse.

We agree on something. I have said many times that the man from Pennsylvania was the worst President of all times. He did nothing to stop the slide into Civil War.

true, even though I believe Biden is a r****t and liar based on past evidence, I don't think he's capable by himself, he's got someone else pulling his strings and it's not Kamala. She's proving to be as incompetent as they come.

Although it's not nearly frequent enough, it pleases me when we agree on something/anything.

I have referenced President James Buchanan more than once when comparing various Presidents to him. I do not recall whether I ever posted him as a topic as you have. The country was fortunate to get Lincoln as his replacement. I believe I even one time listed that as proof of God loving our country, in that whenever we have been cursed with a bad President, we have been blessed shortly there after with a great one.

Son of witless, again I agree with you, especially with your closing statement/assessment.

Thanks to each for contributing to this thread. I spent the last two hours or so watching a movie with my wife, and will be leaving tomorrow for Tyler, Tx. to visit my brother for the weekend. Sorry to miss out on so much, but time with Family is always important to me. My likely return will be sometime Sunday evening

A great weekend to all
