I have been reading opp for awhile now and am simply an independent thinker. I get a kick out of reading the blogs on all the issues, but there is so much infighting between the input of everyone that nobody is seeing the real t***h behind what is really going on in this country or at least willing to accept it. If everyone would forget about being a Rep. or Dem. and just for once just be simply an American who Loves our country and is willing to do wh**ever it takes to heal and fix what is wrong with this country. Divided we fall and together we stand remember ? The enemy has accomplished their goal by turning us against each other and we have forgotten how to agree to disagree. We as Americans have always had our differences, but we are too busy calling each other names to see the real t***h. Our government as a whole has become an evil entity consumed with serving itself instead of us the people. Neither party is always right. It has always taken a good mix of both parties to make the nation run smoothly. Problem is the government as a whole has morphed into a monster that is eating us alive. We need to clean house in Washington and start over from the Constitution as our starting point. No more career politicians. All terms must be limited. If you don't do whats good for the country, your out. Please everyone quit the name calling, forget the Rep. vs Dem and lets take our country back from those in D.C who have an agenda that is self serving. We must put normal people back in D.C. that love America and its founding principals. Like it or not God made this country great, not man. Unite as one people because divided we are falling into the hands of evil.

That is your position. What party do you belong to? Who is your leader?

The people currently in Washington are normal people. Many of them do love America and its founding principles. Though some people hold that different principles are the founding principles...

Welcome to opp SA. You will find a lot of interesting people here and some not so interesting. Then you have the ones who like to cause trouble. Best thing to do is ingore them.

As far as your post goes, I totally agree with you. It's a shame that our nation has been reduced to a nation where morals, beliefs, and honor have been thrown out the window. As for our government, the only way to change it is to v**e'em out in November.

Welcome to OPP, SA. You're spot on in your analysis and the problem seems to be one of "power." Why are millions spent to win jobs that pay in the thousands? The power and the perks. It used to be an imposition to be chosen by your cities & states to go to Washington to represent them because you were often leaving businesses and farms in the hands of others while you did your civic duty. Now of course the politician position is an end in itself and it's no hardship at all to fly back & forth across the country at taxpayer expense many times a year.

There are many terms for what goes on in Wash., D.C. like, "horse trading," or, "negotiating," that all mean, "You scratch my back and I'll return the favor." Politicians love the word, "compromise," but it usually amounts to the wolves deciding whether the sheep is to be fried or baked. And no, the farmer who owns the sheep will not be consulted.

Politicians are good at looking all sanctimonious and agreeing that we need a simpler tax code for example but it is the way it is because they made it that way for their more influential constituents. All the yelling about job being sent overseas and companies moving their headquarters to other countries to avoid corporate taxes being "unpatriotic" is just so much smoke and bluster to garner v**es by the folks who could change all that with the stroke of a pen. But do they? Not so much. "Business is business," and it's always about The Bottom Line.

Most Americans just want a country that works where we're all free to succeed or fail as a result of our best efforts. If we could understand all of the regulations which are in place to "help" the country work better our collective eyes would roll back and we'd slip into comas. It has just gone way past anything our founding fathers envisioned and it does need to be cleaned out and updated to reflect today's conditions. No President does it all by himself; he's not a King. There's 535 "henchmen" allowing and helping it to happen and they all need to be held to account.

Thank you for the warm reception. I almost feel that v****g is of no use and worry about v***r f***d. Last year at the v****g booth, as I was v****g, my v**es were being entered the opposite of what I was entering and when I called someone over to show them they told me its ok its just a glitch we will fix it. To this day I have no way of knowing if my v**es went to who I was v****g for. I just don't trust in this v****g system in place. How do we really know that our v**es are going to who we v**e for ? are things already decided before hand and they just let us v**e to appease us ?

Term limits put unelected officials in charge of government. V**ers lose power, bureaucrats gain power.
I oppose p**********l term limits, as well. There was a specific reason why such limits were not applied.

Anyone loving the founding principles of our nation should oppose term limits in my opinion

I do not understand 'put unelected officials in charge of government'. Can you explain how this happens if term limits were imposed?

Term limits prevent political office from being a career. The purpose is to limit the number of years a politician can hold a given office.

Why? Because because career politicians are the reason our nation is in the mess it's in today.

Keeping the office has become more important that doing the work the office requires. Namely, upholding the Constitution and working toward the good of the public.

While I am here I have a question:

Earlier today I read a powerful post from an 83 year old black man, dying of cancer, who laid it on the line as an American.

It has disappeared from the OPP topic list.

Does anyone know why, or if it can be recovered?

I planned to print it, photoshop it, and frame it.

If the man who posted it would repost perhaps I could print it before it disappears again.

It doesn't matter if we could throw en all out and start over it takes money, lots of money to get elected and those elected are beholden to those that finance them. The only way to ever get those who are elected to be beholden to the people is public financing and eliminate all private financing and special interest groups. Only then can public interest command the attention of those we elect
