Convention of the States? Another Losing "Take Back America" Delusion

The conservatives have a long list of "take back America proposals".

They have all been very losing propositions.

The Convention of the States is just another one you see pushed by the right wingers on OPP.

----------------

From Harvard Law School:

The constitution specifies two different ways for amendments to the constitution to be proposed. The first method allows Congress to propose amendments when such amendments are approved by at least a 2/3 v**e in both houses. The states can then ratify the proposed amendments.

The second method is less familiar to most people as it has NEVER BEEN USED.

This method requires Congress to call a constitutional convention to propose amendments when 2/3 of the states apply for such a convention.

As of 1993, almost 400 convention applications have been submitted to congress by the states. (This is the # of applications since 1789).

THE NUMBER OF CONVENTIONS OF THE STATES HELD???
ZERO!!!!!!

Every state, except Hawaii, has submitted one of these things at one time or another.

The losing items in the "Take Back America" trashcan.

1. Impeachment over bogus birth certificate issues

2. Impeachment over B******i

3. Impeachment over Bergdahl

4. The Cliven Bundy "revolution"

5. The drive to repeal the 17th amendment (direct e******n of U.S. Senators).

6. The ill attended "Take Back America" rallies in Washington D.C. The last of these rallies was "Operation American Spring" in which 300 conservatives showed up to an event that its organizers said would have 10 MILLION PEOPLE.

7. Lastly, the "Convention of the States" delusion.

Liberals have proposed many constitutional amendments.

But you're right. They're happy allowing the USSC to make stuff up as they need them.

So your point is that we should just let this nation go C*******t and wait 70 years for it to go bankrupt and then we start over?

**************

We have been going bankrupt long before President Obama. In the 1990s both Democrats and Repubicans, at the behest of Bill Clinton and the congressional leaders, passed NAFTA.

With the outsourcing of America's jobs we went from a nation that produced things to one that borrowed money from China to make deals. Bundling risky mortages was deemed more fun than building and maintaining American factories.

Throw in trillion dollar wars of aggression and you have a modern day empire doing its best to destroy opportunities for most of its people.

The Hispanic immigrants busing tables, picking lettuce, and cooking meals in restaurants were not the ones who took away the high paying union jobs. Those were sent overseas by American, home grown, corporate and political thugs.

America's problems have everything to do with greedy bag men and nothing to do with "c****es".

Joe McCarthy is dead. Get over it.

Haha! It's easier to place blame, than it is to do something. Most of the folk here have no intentions of doing anything different than they've always done. That's why all the "fussing" about who is most at fault. They are psychologically incapable of accepting any blame themselves, therefor, they cannot allow their "party/ideology" to accept any blame either, as that would indict them.

It isn't surprising that those folk would look for miracles to occur. That's an easier sell than admitting that they ( and theirs ) are part of the problem. I keep telling folks, that if they keep electing republicans - the Government will be full of republicans - and republicans will do what they always do - with the same results. I say exactly the same thing about electing democrats. ( what do you want to bet that some repubs won't read that last part?)

I do not think it will take 70 years, I think that Obama has already made significant head wave in that area.

I do think that the marches, even if they are not well attended, are doing the job. We will see the Democrats influence in the US decline during our next e******n. All people, to include many Liberals have had enough. Enough of the socialist/Islam movement.
