So many people still accept the historically untenable belief that The War for Confederate Secession was fought over s***ery. During the current racial controversy, many, even otherwise well- meaning Republicans and conservatives say that. All evidence is that s***ery was a related but far from central issue.
I have often thought that had the South been allowed to secede there is a good chance segregation and Jim Crow might not have happened but it is not completely certain. This excerpt and the article offer very valid arguments backed by facts, not wishful fantasy.
