SKS...hands down. The most practical weapon ever.

Opinions?

Love mine! Cheap to shoot. Great firepower.

I have a Russian 1954...and a newer chinese one. I've had SKS rifles for over 30yrs. Good dependability and great accuracy.

Can't hardly get shells right now though.

Glad that I stocked up a couple years back.

I owned one once, accidentally dropped it in a river. It took me two weeks to find it and when I did, I poured the water out and it fired like nothing ever happened. I found it the perfect weapon for hunting deer in brush country.

Mine was made in the Chech republic.

Mine's Chinese...I can get ammo OK.

I had to put a regular size stock on the thing. The wood one is tiny.

The Russians let everyone make them.

Mine looks like some kid made it in shop class...but like you say, they are forgiving weapons compared with finicky .223s

Yeah, the sks stock is definitely too short.

I have a synthetic on one.

Do your order ammo online? Oregon has very limited amounts to none in stores and the prices are apocalyptic.

The only thing I don't like about the SKS is the magazine. I got a kit at a gun show where I changed the SKS so it will accept AK magazines. Now it's a good weapon.

I put a Choate on mine and I get ammo from a friend...although the SKS ammo I bought years ago.

I got a 30 round mag for it and gave it away later...too much of a hassle to load. The 10 round clip is fine and easy to load with stripper clips.

5000 rounds between cleanings? How can you beat that?

Never tried that. The aftermarket magazines suck.

The more you fire them the better they get.

I've always had good luck with the 30rd mags...

I don't know who makes the changeover kit, but you might be able to find it online. If my memory serves me right, I think I only paid about five or ten bucks for it.

The Garands only fire 8 shots. 10 is OK.

I hve a Mossberg pump that fires 7 rounds. That's OK too.
