Chauvin trial judge says Maxine Waters' protest remarks could fuel an appeal

As the defense and prosecution rested on Monday, Derek Chauvin's lawyer asked the judge to declare a mistrial over Rep. Maxine Waters' weekend comments, urging protesters to "get more confrontational" if Chauvin is not convicted.
Judge Peter Cahill denied the request, but said that she may have handed the defense a lifeline, just as the jury is set to begin deliberations.
