If you read the article it wasn't about being fair but rehabilitation of the boys. If you think they shouldn't be rehabilitated that's fine but in prison, they would be turned into career criminals and how is society served by that? Here they have a shot at a different life whereas your way they wouldn't. I think that's what the judge had in mind.

I have seen a show of awhat happens to boys in rehab center, it's not that much different from prison...
