I really love how the topic sentence is a blatant twist of the facts. She WAS NOT charged, convicted and sentenced for being a concientious objector. She WAS charged, convicted and sentenced for desertion. Get it right and I might be more sympathetic. Her reason for desertion, while not an excuse and I in no way condone it, was that she was a concientious objector and felt that she had no other choice because of her treatment at the hands of a chaplain. She had other avenues, like her entire chain of command, in which to address her concerns. She refused to seek them out.

Being charged, convicted and sentenced for desertion is not being charged, convicted and sentenced for being a concientious objector.
If you are going to lie, at least do it in a way you cannot be found out so easily.
Sounds a lot like what Bill Clinton when he got drafted and then fled to England. What punishment did he get? We made him President and then gave him a $500,000 a year pension for life. How dumb can we be?
