Great Prayer! Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at
the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some
people...
When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate,
everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and
guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we
have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have k**led our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot a******nists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem..

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free.
Amen!

The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in
protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than
5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively.. The church is now receiving
international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea .

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our
desire so that we again can be called 'one nation under God.'

If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends. "If you don't stand for something,
you will fall for anything."

Think about this: If you forward this prayer to everyone on your
e-mail list, in less than 30 days it would be heard by the entire world.

I'm assuming becoming "one nation under god" is inferring that we should establish a religion. More specifically an Abrahamic religion which is a violation of the first amendment.

I see no specific reference to an "Abrahamic religion" in the prayer, nor anywhere else. The only reference is God.

No offense meant, but you do know the definition of assume as to the break down of the letters in the word?

Hmm...not. If he was specifically referencing his God, he would have invoked Christ into the prayer. He did not do so, hence it was a generic "Heavenly Father". You are taking commentary at the end of the prayer, which was not the Pastor's commentary, and imposing it on the Pastor and his prayer.

Okay let us assume that he is referring to a "generic heavenly father"
Heavenly father still refers to a paternal like figure who is god.
He just put religions that are like the one above, above all other polytheistic religions. Which would be the establishment of religion(s) .

Pay very careful attention. So far, you have failed to do so. Below is the posting. If you would, please, pay attention, you would understand the part highlighted in blue IS NOT part of the prayer. The Pastor's prayer ends with the word highlighted in green.

I wasn't addressing the Pastor though, now was I? The author does not support separation of church and state which is guaranteed in the constitution. Any one who agrees with this also does not support separation of church and state. Again I pose the question, do you want to edit the constitution?

I misunderstood. I thought you perceived it was the Pastor as opposed to another individual on the issue.

Hmm...there may be an amendment or two, yes. As to the original Bill of Rights, no.

. A VERY GOOD PRAYER. highly commendable, but just saying the words is not really a prayer. It must come from the heart. This can only come about when we from the heart repent of our sins and then go to God.
