WHICH WAY WILL JOE BLOW?

So now there’s brave talk about boycotting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. Reasons given are that China (formerly Red China) is a repressive totalitarian regime that suppresses freedom of expression, practices genocide, ens***es over 1MM Uighur Muslims, and sequesters millions more in reeducation camps. And oh yes, critics now contend China is responsible, or at least partly responsible, or has some shared culpability to some degree or another (pick your blame descriptor) in the worldwide C***d p******c. A handful of Congressional Republicans seem to be calling the Biden administration out on this, at least to the extent nuisance objections to White House policies receive any media coverage.

But the GOP stance seems a little half-hearted, perhaps rooted more in the opportunity for needling Team Biden on all matters China than any serious effort to enact meaningful sanctions on the Chinese C*******t Party. WH spokesperson Jen Psaki today floated the notion the administration would consider recommendations from the US Olympic Committee in its decision-making process on the subject. How’s that for a “broad coalition” on our China policy? Maybe we should ask Amazon, Apple, Nike and the NBA what they think too?

Understanding how delicate a matter it is for the Biden administration to slight China with non-participation, let alone face the blowback for leading a global boycott, I would offer the President a better foil: where do the Muslim nations stand on the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing? Surely, if the Muslim nations around the world were to condemn China on a multi-lateral basis and organize a boycott on their own, the Biden administration, along with many other trembling western democracies, could find plenty of “cover” there for withdrawing their attendance. After all, can’t insult the Muslim world; we’ve seen first-hand how well that plays out.

On the other hand, if the Muslim world chooses to look the other way so their athletes can play in the snow, why should the US stand on principle if those so aggrieved will not? So, while Joe lowers f**gs to half-mast and convenes a candlelight photo op for the presumed half million C***d dead in America, who will ultimately decide whether the US will play the useful i***t on the world stage and be “hosted” by China in the spirit of global unity? Republicans eager to stir the pot have only a small megaphone, and an even smaller attention span. The US Olympic Committee is hardly a good faith arbiter on the matter. No. We should lead from behind (catchy, yes?) on this one and let the Muslim world go on the record as to whether worldwide acceptance (celebration?) of China’s internal politics is acceptable.

We should make attending conditional on the athletes being free to mix with the population and speak their minds. We should say that they will be encouraged to talk about China refusing to recognize Hong Kong's status as they agreed to- not allowing them to elect who they want. If China still wants them, fine.

Generally I am against boycotts except as a personal choice. Your issue might not be my issue. For example, I boycott Nike for various issues. but if you see a great shoe that workes perfectly for you, that is your choice. I also boycott the NBA and the NFL for their r****t bull schitte, and what I see as actions that offend Patriotism, and that men sacrificed their lives for us to enjoy the freedom of our Republic. I could go on. But if you want to watch them, that is your right.

Now we have the Olympics. The government has a long list of offenses against China, the host of the next Olympics. Valid ones, and yet they engage China and kiss their asses constantly. Now some want Olympic athletes to suffer through a boycott and not participate in something that they have been working towards for most of their lives. We tried this before and hurt our own athletes more then the host.

Right now, Russia is banned from the Olympics over past doping issues. The Olympic Committee is letting clean qualified Russian athletes to go as unaffiliated athletes. They should be allowed. They didn't do wrong. If we feel the need to boycott the Olympics officially, our qualified athletes should be allowed to compete as independent athletes, for their own glory and not the glory of America.
