We are spending dollars upon dollars in the attempt to figure out how we can live on Mars in case the environment on earth becomes "uninhabitable" for humans.
However no matter how bad the earth's environment becomes, it won't be as bad as Mars is right now.
Would it not be cheaper, more efficient, and serve a greater number of folks to just build wh**ever habitations designed for Mars here on earth?

Do you mean adapt to the changing climate on Earth like man has done since man has existed?

This is not the reason for space exploration. It is much easier for people to live in Antarctica or under the sea then send them to Mars or the moon. The exploration of space is simply to widen mankind’s understanding of the universe, the pursuit of knowledge.

Sure, we just need to find room for 10 billion people, room to farm enough food to feed 10 billion people, enough water for 10 billion people AND their crops.......................

Any mars colonization will require sustainability, i.e., the ability to make/grow everything they need to survive. Personally, I don't think we'll have the time.

Assuming no life is found on Mars, it would take 400-500 years to terraform Mars to Earths current conditions.

If we would suddenly cut off this high dollar space exploration it would have a larger effect than stopping the pipeline by far !
