Sounds like the old "I want mine, but you don't deserve yours" song and dance routine that is so prevalent in today's society.

Must be damned difficult making it on $174k, but someone making $7.25/hour should have no problem.

This Rino needs to be shown the exit door of Congress.

In a perfect world, we would pay our reps. minimum wage, they would furnish their own t***sportation or use rapid t***sit, they can't own a gun, they pay for their own health insurance, like many corps, we furnish no retirement plans, and no security would be provided. If they were forced to live by the same rules they impose upon the people, things would change.

Don't get me wrong, Congress is way-overpaid.

But the 2 are not connected.

Besides, raising the minimum wage is a bad idea. He should be rewarded for doing the right thing.

You know, when you raise the minimum wage, money doesn't flow out of an eagle's butt to pay for it. That money comes from somewhere. And it has to be recovered.

Either prices go up, employees have hours cut back, or both.

Say you do raise the min wage, and say all of the grocery stores in America didn't fire anyone but raised the prices on their food to pay for it. That means WIC and Food Stamp recipients would have less food.

What to do say to people that can't afford the price increases?

What do you say to the employees that are fired?

Keeping the peasant class poor, is what he's getting paid for. He deserves more money for doing that, because we're making it harder for him to do. Only working about 90 days a year, means he must work all the harder - when he's there. Tough job that, saying "no" when everyone else is saying "yes".

You're correct in your assessment Dave. Minimum wage is a s**m that has always been perpetuated by union bosses. In spite of what proponents claim, minimum wage has never helped raise people out of poverty but it has cost jobs and padded union pockets.

If you imagine all wages to be represented by a ladder whose first rung is currently at 7.25 and the top rung is in the millions, what is being asked is to raise that first rung. You have raised it too high for some people just entering the job market and they can't reach it to get started. But you have also created a situation where those people who are employed on a rung just above that first rung feel that they need a raise. And, if that happens, the people on the rung just above that want theirs. And so it goes.

Another falsehood is that employers are depicted as evil Scrooges who want to c***t their employees. Granted, that i***t does exist but, by far the majority of employers are looking for the best people and are willing to pay them when they find them and reward them in order to keep them. There exists a competition for good employees at all levels. People should be paid what they're worth.

And lastly, if a minimum wage made any sense at all (which it doesn't) it could only be justified on a state-by-state basis. A Federal minimum wage is a preposterous idea that only an intellectual could embrace.

There was nothing in that article that said he wanted a raise, only that he didn't endorse a cut - does the Huffington Post always count on their readers not comprehending the misleading headline not supported by the article?

Seems to me your perfect world would restrict these jobs to those who are independently wealthy.

How is he keeping anyone poor? You don't really think there is a single member of the House (sans Charlie Rangel and Sheila Jackson Lee) who could hold the seat working only 90 days a year, do you?

I would be shocked if anyone worked MORE than 90 days. If you've ever watched CSPAN, you'd have noticed that 95% of the seats are empty. They might be in DC - but they're not working.

I'm no fan of our elected ones, but most work is off camera, and should be.

So, to you they aren't working unless they are in their seats. Clearly you understand little about what it takes to either get elected or to legislate

Sorry, I just can't resist. I want to make sure I understand your line of reasoning. Based on the contributor's comment you were able to deduce that he understands little about what it takes to either get elected or to legislate? And it was "clear" to you? Really? So this is the liberal logic I hear so much about. I am in awe.
