Maybe this guy was afraid he was going to have a "Travon" moment.

Better reply might have been "why yes I have a Glock, Smith and Weston 40 caliber, would you like to see it, smile when you see the flash"

Carry and use it when necessary.

On July 31, a Neptune Beach 15-year-old walked up on a man who was alone, minding his own business. The teenager asked the man if he had a Glock. The man, confused, told the boy that he wasn’t carrying a weapon. That was all the teenager needed to hear. He punched the stranger in the face, making him the latest victim of the “knockout game,” a dangerous pastime that involves knocking out innocent and unsuspecting strangers. Several victims have been k**led as a result of the game, and the Neptune Beach victim didn’t want to see that happen. He drew a knife after being attacked, a move that was apparently enough to send the teenager and his compatriots running.

Reports of this insidious game go back as far as 1992, though the last couple of years have seen a tremendous upswing in the trend. Unfortunately, there appears to be a racial element to the attacks, and most of the widely-reported incidents have been very much color-coordinated: black men and teens attacking white people. Republicans in New York and Wisconsin, among others, have strongly considered legislation that would elevate sentencing for Knockout Game assailants. Thus far, however, these bills have not come to fruition.

Of course, the Neptune Beach incident isn’t so much a warning about the Knockout Game as it is a reminder of the kind of situation you can find yourself in on any given day. You don’t have to live in Bed-Stuy to run up against violence. No one wants to walk around in a world where they could be attacked at any moment, but that’s the world we live in. True, if you are cognizant of your surroundings and don’t go out of your way to antagonize people, the chances of running into a violent conflict are slim. But don’t make the mistake of believing they are nonexistent.

There are a number of options a right-thinking person might explore before pulling a gun in a violent situation, of course. One should always make every effort to avoid those situations to begin with, and it is strongly preferable to use your wits to get out of a situation before it escalates. Depending on the circumstances, it may be better to engage in hand-to-hand combat before turning to weaponry.

At the end of the day, however, each of us has the right to protect ourselves and a moral obligation to protect our loved ones. As the Neptune Beach man demonstrated, a knife can sometimes be just the trick. But you can’t always count on your attacker to run away when presented with a knife. Meanwhile, any survey you come across will show that criminals don’t want anything to do with armed victims. There are too many easier targets out there. If you can avoid making yourself one of them, why not consider it?

Maybe there should be a law allowing for beating the sh*t out of the black assailant by the white individual who had been knocked out. If this person is unable to do so because of injury then he could hand pick someone to fill in for him in his role in knocking the sh*t out of said teen.

In public, without a trial, by a linch mob with venders selling ice cream and smiling people posing for pictures around the condemned to put on post cards. It is amazing that no one thought of this in the past. It takes the enlightened people of OPP to come up with this obvious solution. A chat room full of anonimous right wing nut jobs will always come to the expected conclusion.

I am sure that our liberal friends will be most offended by what I am about to share. I like what Indonesian Law incorporates for just such incidents; public floggings or canings. When an assailant is apprehended for 'public assault', the courts in Indonesia can and will often sentence that individual to a public caning. The number of lashes is governed by the severity of the crime.

The individual is dressed in a protective and padded suit that protects the spine, but leaves the butt cheeks bare. A split bamboo cane is used to administer the punishment and the blows are directed at the bare butt cheeks; this form of punishment leaves scars and a lasting impression. The number of repeat offenders is less than 1/4 of 1%. If criminals do not fear the consequences of their actions, we have no deterrent.

Cycling felons through the penal system is not working. As a sovereign nation, we incarcerate more people than any other nation on earth. Our penal system is very expensive and repeat offenders approach a statistical average of 40% (4 in 10 return within a 3 year period)

We are looking for behavior modification and the Dr. Spock psycho-babble is not working. What say you?

Please use the quote reply tag at the bottom of the quote you are replying to. This will bring in the quote that you are responding to and then you can type your response either above or below that other persons quote. There are three tags as listed here Reply Quote Reply Report Issue at the bottom of each and every quote on here. Use the one in the middle which is quote reply. The reply tag allows to write a comment that no one else will be able to know to whom you are referring your remark to. And of course report issue goes to the managers of this web site. Thank you we have all been told this at one time or another so don't feel embarrassed or anything. I think that I was told three times before I realized what I was doing wrong.
