We conservatives have been accused of wanting to turn the clock back to the 1950's or so, for reasons I do not comprehend. Perhaps it is just hyperbole, meant to deflect the general argument on what we should be doing in America to make life better for both the population at large, ourselves and our children. Just another dark angel story to frazzle the soldiers of the light.

Turning back the clock figuratively is of course totally inadvisable, as any fool can understand. Too much has gone by and been absorbed into the minds of the people. Too many d******e ideas have been cemented into the souls of radical-minded citizens in positions of power who are themselves and their ideas of dubious worth.

Change has taken place everywhere all around the world since 1950. Cell phones, computers, TV, jet travel, space ventures, the internet gateway to knowledge, DNA, and many national convolutions in the world mark this last 70 years! Now we have the impact of the C****-** p******c to try to cope with everywhere. We hear of the "Global Reset" movement that wants to unite the world under a single government, manned of course, by c*******ts and their fellow travelers. There is enormous speculation about extraterrestrials contacting us, which would be an extraordinary event!

G*******ts want the US to give up its sovereignty for the "good of the cause". This seems to be in line with the idea that you can take away a lot from the rich and give it to the poor, all for fairness and harmony!

For me, the only rational thing to do is to hearken back to the 1950's and mine the good of that era, and to merge them into our society, instead of trying to level things now in America the hard way.

Preserving the good is a conservative mantra!

I'm sorry, but I'm 69 years old and the only thing I remember about the 1950's was they were the very worst years of my life because I was born to a child abuser who made the first 16 years of my life PURE H#LL!🤬 Nostalgia isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Therefore, I prefer not to think about the 50's at all.

Quite understandable, and very sad to read. One hopes your story is very rare indeed!

Sorry you suffered. I can share your misery. My stepfather, was a source of much agony to me. However, the only certain doorway to an American future is through the 1950s. As a nation, we desperately need to harken back to the values and the virtues we took for granted during those years. However unfortunate our personal experiences might have been, our national experience was one of unbounded hope and self-confidence.

The loss of those things has brought us the the edge of extinction as a nation.

It is not rare. Abuse and neglect was as rampant then as it is now.

Remember those colored illustrations on the back of National Geographic in the fifties?
Usually an advertisement for Ford or Chrysler they pictured a white family out for a Sunday drive. Father and Mother, boy and a girl, well dressed, well fed and full of middle class prosperity and happiness. Understandable you would feel both nostalgia and a sense of loss (if you are white) at the evaporation of this romanticized ideal of life in this country, but life does not stand still and the papered over reality of America’s enduring underclass was always present and is now front and center, no longer possible to ignore or hide.

I am not saying we need to bring the 50s back, wholesale. For me, they were miserable years and I have no nostalgic connection to them.

I am not talking about the window dressing or the Rockwell images. If those are yours, great, they are not mine. I am talking about the moral underpinnings of society, the generalized culture and the basic attitudes that were generally subscribed to by the average American of that time. Basic attitudes, meaning foundational, not specific prejudices.

In any society based on competition, there will always be an underclass, an upperclass and if we are wise, a huge and dominant middleclass. There is no way to root out competition in this universe. No matter what system of government one creates, competitive drive will always break out in that manner; a top, a bottom and a middle. Think dying of thirst, two people, one glass of water. Think bell curve. Think anything you like but no system can or ever will create a different outcome.

You cannot cater to the top if you seek e******y because not everyone is capable of that level of function. You can force everyone to the lowest common denominator with temporary success but it will only be temporary because it takes someone to keep the pressure on to hold the natural achievers down. That is a recipe ripe for failure because the rotation rate for dictators is a very unpredictable one and sooner or later, the masses will catch on,.

Even Hitler was h**ed enough that some 44 attempts were made on hs life, both before he was in power and throughout his rise and wars. A very temporary position!
