For those that can't take the time to read the random study on the effectivness of face masks, here is the results.

participants recommended masks (1.8%)
Without masks (2.1%).
The between-group difference was −0.3 percentage point

This was for a free people randomly selected, wandering around society for at least 3 hours per day.
Those masks are just not all they are played up to be.
If you don't agree, come up with another study that proves different.

Very informative article, it's unfortunate Commentators don't really read this type of informative information, the objective of this analysis is described in the opening paragraph headed "Background" describing the uncertainty existing about whether wearing face masks in public is mainly for - quote "protection of uninfected wearers (protective effect), via reduced t***smission from infected mask wearers (source control), or both.

9 paragraphs down headed "Conclusion" - "The recommendation to wear surgical masks to supplement other public health measures did not reduce Sars-Cov-2 infection rates among wearers by more than 50%'.

Next paragraph headed " Primary Funding Source" listed as point number (14) - "The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (15) strongly recommend that person's with symptoms or known infection wear masks to prevent t***smission".

Really is a no-brainer, South Australia just had a new cluster of 23 infections starting from ground zero, so all grog shops are shutting for a week, there is a bright side to every dark tail, even ones with an arrow tip at the end.

My experience ; I've been generating sawdust, plexi-dust, and concrete dust for fifty years.Lots of it. I wore common dust-masks most of the time, not the medical grade. Facial hair, sweat, facial-muscles moving when you spoke or grimaced...or farted, allowed all but the coarsest of particles to enter my respiratory system. Very few of the masks I see out there are medical-grade.Hospitals, senior living facilities and wh**ever "hot-spots" should require or provide medical-grade masks. But, in general, I think it's futile to mandate the general population to wear them. Compliance, population-control, and arguments are interesting, but this is MY experience. I'd make an argument for common-sense...but that appears to be a memory these days. Thanks, Mike.

Might add that unless things have changed in the last 6 months, whenever medical personnel leave an isolation room they are supposed to remove contaminated gown/glove/mask - use hand hygiene - new gown/mask/gloves before entering the next room.
