When were you wearing nomex? I started in 1977 working for USFS in Colorado. Ended up doing it til retiring a few years ago from NIFC (National Interagency Fire Center, used to be known as BIFC years ago) here in Boise. In between I was stationed in AK, MI, MN, SD-ND, FL, GA, and SC. Glad I'm retired cause it gets worse annually, fire season has expanded by at least two months across most of the west. CA's fire season used to end in late September or early October, now its year round. If we want to get things under control we have to change building codes, too much expansion of the WUI going on unchecked. It's gotten to the point that most of our resources are protecting communities instead of fighting fire.

And yeah, we need to drastically increase our use of Rx fire, but it really comes down to funding. Our total annual national wildland fire budget would fund the military for about 12 hours. Take 10 billion a year from defense and move it to fire and we could make some headway. Right now we are just pissing in an ocean.

I think it has more to do with d******eness and division. An "us vs them" mentality. That is also why they tend to like lumping everyone that doesn't support Trump together as a "them". I lump people that appear to support Trump together as "Trumplicans" because they support Trump, but I do know that there are conservatives and even conservative Republicans that AREN'T a "Trumplican". That is why I adopted the term "Trumplican" in the first place, to distinguish them from all the run of the mill conservatives and Republicans.

Yep I agree. Maybe half of the Trump v**ers are in the cult, the rest v**ed for him for economic reasons or just did not like Biden. I have at least 5 republican friends that are staunch lifelong GOPers that all told me they v**ed for Biden. All because they think Trump is scum who wants to be the first autocratic leader of the free world. One of these guys is a vet and two of his sons are also vets. Trump lost him with his comments about military war dead being losers.

Trump is much better at alienating others than trying to build his base of support.

I have heard/read that there were some that said they were present and did not hear him say such things, I have heard/read that some said they were present and DID hear him make such comments. I guess it comes down to who's word you trust more, who's hearing you trust more, what you think the witness's motivations were to hear/not hear such comments or who you think was more attentive. Debunked... I think not, 100% confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt? I will have to say not necessarily. Does it fall in line with other off hand remarks Trump has made? Sadly, yes. Do I believe he could have said it? Yes. Do I KNOW he said it beyond any reasonable doubt? No. Do I believe he really did say it? Yeah, I don't think sufficient motivation exists to make up such a horrendous lie. It would take a truly twisted, morbid, sick heart/mind to make up such a d********g lie.

Bottom line is this, it is NOT 100% debunked, there are people confirming that they heard such things, others saying they didn't hear such things. I have seen people stand two feet away from someone and can't even seem to hear their own name being said and they weren't always "so deaf", they could hear someone whisper quietly about money from greater distances away.

I was in nomex between '91 & '98. Some of the years were wet and I wish that would happen again. We got some controlled and cultural burns accomplished those years.

I feel for firefighters nowadays. The majority of the job is, like you say, protecting property. And under e*****e w*****r conditions.

Thinning the forests would help a lot.
