It is absolutely true that the Southern Democrats were firm believers in segregation. The KKK was the military wing of the Southern Democratic Party, This occurred during reconstruction. That was then, this is now. Since LBJ, the parties have switched positions on this topic. Thats why the Republicans own the South as LBJ predicted. In my state, South Carolina, 95% of the people in my neighborhood are Republicans, although few if any are segregationists. Being a Republican doesn't mean that you are a r****t. Being a Trump cultist certainly brings you under suspicion.
