A major rift is developing between the United States and Israel's leadership over the utterly deficient peace proposal Secretary of State John Kerry recently crafted and presented to Israeli leaders.
As one Israeli writer wrote in the newspaper Ha'aretz, it might as well have been penned by Khaled Meshal. It was everything Hamas could have hoped for
"
Below are further details of this intensifying problem fostered by the Obama administration Mat.
Martin,
Israeli leadership must be thinking, with friends like Barack Obama and John Kerry, who needs enemies?"
While espousing solidarity with Israel, the Obama administration has thrown Israel under the bus - again. The latest incident came in the form of a proposed, very one-sided cease-fire agreement.
According to reports by Ha'aretz, the cease-fire deal Kerry drafted and proposed included
arrangements to secure the opening of crossings, allow the entry of goods and people and ensure the social and economic livelihood of the Palestinian people living in Gaza, t***sfer of funds to Gaza for the payment of salaries for public employees and address all security issues.
Israel's demands were mentioned in the most general of terms in the phrase address all security issues.' There was not one mention of demilitarizing the Gaza Strip of its rocket supply or advanced weapons, and not the dismantling of the terror tunnels."
This Ha'aretz report coincides with the White House's own press release, which said an integral part of the proposed deal
allows Palestinians in Gaza to lead normal lives and addresses Gaza's long-term development and economic needs, while strengthening the Palestinian Authority."
The proposal also reportedly elevates Hamas, a terrorist organization to equal status with the nation of Israel!
The document placed Israel and Hamas on the same level, as if the first is not a primary U.S. ally and as if the second isn't a terror group which overtook part of the Palestinian Authority in a military c**p and fired thousands of rockets at Israel.
This is an egregious violation of U.S. policy and a slap in the face of our most trusted ally in that region.
The Obama administration is now reportedly fuming over the Israelis' mischaracterization" of the cease-fire proposal. Reading the Ha'aretz report along side of the White House press release, I do not see any manipulation of the facts by Israeli leadership.
Again, the Obama administration's double-speak is jeopardizing the peace process, fostering anti-Semitic uprisings around the world, and diminishing our relationship with Israel.
+ + A letter from an Israeli friend reminded Americans of what is at stake in the peace process
Israelis want peace so badly. But we also desperately want to live. We love life and we are not about to let anyone, let alone a bunch of deranged thugs take it away from us. So yes, this is a fight to the death for both sides.
Remember, if they win, you are next. If we win, those symbols of civilization that everyone takes so for granted will remain standing and everyone will criticize and complain about disproportionate responses and war crimes and all kinds of other irrelevant nonsense, but secretly I think everyone will be heaving a sigh of relief."
