Corporate Tax Dodges

Walgreens has grown into America's largest pharmacy chain. The majority of the company's 72 billion in sales last year was made in America. Nearly a quarter of these sales came from taxpayer funded programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

How do they intend to repay the taxpayers of America? They are considering using the "tax inversion gimmick". This entitles them to continue cashing in on US profits, while dodging an estimated $4 billion in taxes over the next five years. This is just one of a number of tricks wealthy corporations are using to stash cash and profits overseas to avoid paying their fair share of taxes.

According to a recent study from Americans For Tax Fairness 4 billion dollars is enough to pay for one and a half years of prescription drugs for the entire US veterans population, cover 3.5 million children under the Children's Health Insurance Program or provide Medicaid to over 639,000 people.

Corporate tax dodging endangers funding for vital programs that help working class Americans, just to line the pockets of greedy shareholders and CEOs.

Since, Walgreens relies of sales to US customers, I say let's show them the same consideration: Boycott Walgreens.

Since you are unable or unwilling to post links, I find this just to be your opinion and not worth paying attention to. I will not boycott anyone or anything on just one persons word and without links, that is exactly what this is. Yes, I know how to do searches, but if you can't supply links, then why bother?

Typical liberal logic...just like Biden said "it's unAmerican, or unpatriotic to not want to pay your taxes!" Walgreens is saving their shareholders $4b over ten years by escaping the over burdening and highest Corporate tax rate in the world. You know share holders, those people who invest in companies and expect a return on their money. People who invest in order to supplement their retirement, and mutual funds who invest retirement funds in stocks. If you don't like THE LAW, write your Congressman and tell them to change the law.

The U.S. Treasury has taken in a record amount of tax dollars over the past two fiscal years, and it still is not enough for you socialists! We're still running a deficit! How much tax money do you people need???? It is you lefties who destroyed this economy, so deal with it.

I'm now going to make sure I shop at Walgreens.

Why are highly educated people so susceptible to corporate propaganda? They have a stake in it. More often then not they are an unwitting tool of the propagandist. They speak with the voice that pays them and will not buck the system that puts the money in their pockets regardless of the harm it does to others.

All corporations exist for one purpose, the greed of their shareholders. There is only the bottom line. They are blind to poverty and disease until it relates to the shareholders then they are the first to scream: "That's not fair! I don't deserve this."

Each freedom granted a corporation is yet another freedom you loose.

Sorry I did not realize you were unable to do your own research. I am sure I hold your opinion in as high a regard as you hold mine.

No, we're just smart enough to not get sucked into the propaganda, like you.

First of all, there should be no federal corporate tax at all. Then if you want to b***h about something, explain what you're b***hing about.

You made the claim that Walgreens plans to avoid paying 4 billion dollars in taxes. Then tell us how they plan on doing it. Is it a tax loophole passed with the law by congress, as I suspect, or some nefarious trick that they plan to use to hide profits?

If it is a loophole in the law, Walgreens, and all other corporations would be fools not to take advantage of a legal loophole purposely, or stupidly, passed by congress. Also, don't get angry at a corporation for using a hole left in a law by congress, get angry at congress for either purposely, or stupidly, putting that in the law.

If some corporation is harming someone, then get the Justice Dept to bring a law suit. I think you’re imagining things, aided by MSM/Progressive propaganda.

Repay taxpayers? for what? Walgreens hasn’t done anything illegal. They are using the tax code v**ed in by Congress that everybody uses. If you want to, form your own corporation and “stash” your own money abroad.

Every taxpayer has the right to arrange their finances to pay the lowest tax possible. I’ll bet you do, too, unless you’re the 47% who don’t pay any taxes.

You know, you’re so worked up about Walgreen’s bottom line. Their money is their money, and your money is your money, so stop fantasizing about how you would redistribute their hard-earned legally-obtained money.
