I told you my uncle quoted it to me. I was just going by memory. If Franklin didn't say it my uncle did.

Yep. Obvious and costly overreaction...on purpose, of course.

Can't wait for class-action lawsuits to roll out on everyone who can be sued.

Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death.

James Madison, author of the Constitution of the United States

Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.

John Adams, 2nd president of the United States

The experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived.

John Quincy Adams, 6th President of the United States

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our constitution was made for a moral and religious people... it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
John Quincy Adams

I always thought that we were not a democracy, but a republic. I know politicians continue to say we have to save democracy and stuff like that-but we have never had a democracy, where each v**e counts and it is the popular v**e that determines winners in e******ns. The E*******l College prevents the large populated states from running rough shod over more sparsely populated states. When the Dems call for abolishing the EC, they are being extremely foolish. The worm at some point will turn, and the large populations on the East and West Coast may wake up to the destruction perpetrated on them by the leaders THEY chose, and leave that party. If/when that happens, the Dems will be wishing the EC were still alive and well.

I suspect what would happen is that the Midwest and South would be ignored by the powers that be-and they would not like that much. With all the junk visited on these states by their governors and the Congress, it may just be the straw that breaks the Midwest's back-I doubt you can abolish the EC without a Constitutional amendment. I would hope that people would take notice, rise up and fight for their right to be heard as Americans, especially when you consider that CA and other states want i******s to be given the right to v**e. They do not belong here, so should have no skin in the game as to who the president or any other official is. Interesting time to live. Common Sense has been k**led.

Direct democracy has only been tried once in all human history I know of.

It's been attempted numerous times at the local level.... Issues arise when it involves too large or to diverse populations...

Sorry, bro, but I'm not into postmodern word games, especially with dictionary definitions.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do here, but embedded in our constitution are the 3 co-equal branches of government, the concept of Federalism and the E*******l College, all of which belie the idea that America is a democracy.

If Americans v**e for their government, then America is a form of democracy... No games... Simple fact...

Democracies come in many forms...

China is also a democracy...

Bizarre, I know...
