Do Mormons get to bring their own underwear to military basic training?
When I was enlisting in the Air Force 30 years ago, my bishop gave me some pocket-sized scriptures and counseled me not to wear the garment during basic training, to avoid calling attention to it. This was the same as what I had read in the manual for Preparing to Enter the Holy Temple. My dad had advised me to take as little as possible with me to basic training, so all I had was in my pockets. Both of these pieces of advice were useful.

I was told to never bring only one Mormon fishing with you because they will drink all of your beer.

Grandpa referred to those kind of Mormons as Jack Mormons. I don't know if that was derogatory or not, but Grandpa had a Mormon friend who drank coffee whenever he came to visit Grandpa and didn't seem to mind being called a Jack Mormon.
