Portland protesters find new ways to stand up to federal agents
"We came out here dressed in T-shirts and twirling Hula-Hoops and stuff, and they started gassing us, so we came back with respirators, and they started shooting us," a local Black protest organizer in Portland said.
As nights of protest have turned into weeks and months, intensified by the deployment of federal agents, participants' tactics have evolved.
After the Wall of Moms appeared last week, a Wall of Dads arrived, toting leaf blowers to blow tear gas back toward officers.
One protester said she urges others to bring friends to help "de-arrest," or literally wrench each other from the arms of officers.
