Welcome Christian Conservative College Professor!! Yes, indeed, lots of opinions thrown around here, very spirited, but I have come to realize that they are spirited because "they care" -- they ALL care -- sometimes hard to remember   when the manner of expression becomes "less than polite." That said, before replying to someone's post, kindly click on that "quote/reply" tab before you respond, that way we'll ALL know who it is that you are responding to. I look forward to your posts.

Welcome to the circus - all of us care - some about the wrong things, but that is what keeps us coming back.

Location, location, location. When I first moved to the Commonwealth of VA from the State of MD, I had occasion to go in search of cutting blades for a hay mower. My husband was making some other adjustments to the tractor so I went off to the local tractor store in search of blades. I had never been in the store, had no idea where they kept blades and so I asked a salesman where the blades might be. There were some gentlemen standing around chatting when I came in, but chatter stopped as I asked about the blades. You could have heard a pin drop as I heard this voice behind me inquire "ma'am, do you know the difference between a Yankee and a dam Yankee?" I assured him I didn't, but that I was sure I was about to be enlightened. In a soft southern drawl, he replied "well, ma'am, a Yankee is one who comes to visit and then goes on back home, but a damn Yankee is one who comes and stays." I turned, recognizing the owner of the voice because he was the one with a twinkle in his eye, and told him I was going to sorely disappoint him because not only was I a damn Yankee, I was a stubborn one, and he had better get used to seeing me. I'm sure he took note of the twinkle in MY eye.

Well, if you are one, or live among them you wouldn't understand. I was born and reared in a lovely small town in Florida. During the war we had many soldiers and airmen deployed there. They evidently took a great liking to it. We previously were overrun with snow birds from September until school was out in June. We were accustomed to them, and they didn't cause too many problems. But with the large influx of damnyankees, (that is one word), after the war, everything went downhill. Our way of life was forever changed, and not for the better. 1946 turned out even worse than 1866. To make matters worse, my folks emigrated north in 1950, and we had to live among nothing but damnyankees. I managed to escape in Feb 1951 by joining my beloved Corps. In 1955, following my discharge, I remained in what was then beautiful Southern California. I have lived here ever since, even though it has been t***sformed into Mexifornia. I hold no animosity for damnyankees, but I never could become fully assimilated with them. My philosophy was live and let live, to coin a phrase.
