WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that states violate the Constitution if they prevent religious schools from receiving some state benefits that are available to other schools.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the 5-4 ruling, which further lowered the wall of separation between the church and the state and will likely affect laws or constitutional provisions in more than two-thirds of the nation that bar public funding for mosques, churches, Madrasas and other religious schools.

The decision gives a boost to the Trump administration’s efforts to get more public support for students in religious schools, while teachers organizations said such a move would hurt the nation's public schools.

Lily Eskelsen Garcia, president of the teachers union National Education Association, condemned the decision, saying, "An extreme Supreme Court just joined the far-right effort to undermine one of our country's most cherished democratic institutions: public education."

Truly? Private schools shouldn't have access to public funds... That sounds off...

While a religion cannot be targeted by this, decision it should be possible to refuse funds if the school promotes separatism for its students. A major reason for many private schools is to keep their children away from children with different beliefs; this should not be subsidized.

I have neve considered the public schools a cherished institution.
The public school system is pretty much a sham and a waste of public funds.
Private/parochial schools are shown to educate students better at 2/3 the cost of public schools.

You have probably never been more wrong, demonstrating that you are ignorant of the subject.
The purpose for private schools is most certainly NOT to keep their children away from children with different beliefs. Don't remember ever hearing anything so ridiculous. Catholic schools, for example, teach the morals and faith of the Catholic Church, or course. But you all Catholic schools have Non-Catholic students. My
kids had Baptists, Methodists AND JEWS in their classes.....and those kids parents were paying higher
tuition to send them there...….so they would not be exposed to the public school system.
God Bless freedom of choice.
