While I won't hold my breath, this may be different considering the timing and what Trump's popularity is doing to senators in states that were considered locked up.

All it is going to take is solid evidence that Russia was in fact paying the Taliban a bounty to k**l American soldiers, and clear evidence that Trump knew this but has done nothing...and it's over, the GOP will throw him under the bus.

The evidence comes in the form of the president's daily brief, a matter of record that intelligence committees will have access to, and interviews with key people who would have been telling him and making the recommendations on actions. Not only that, there are people tasked with informing the president who are going to refuse to lie for him about whether they did their jobs.
