I was blind but now I see. In one of the stories of the Old Testament, a servant of the prophet Elisha is terrified by the Syrian army surrounding his city. Elisha reassures him that God will deliver the people of Israel. Elisha prays, "O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see." God answers the prayer and the servant suddenly sees "the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha" (2 Kings 6:17). Elisha's servant was not physically blind. He simply needed a dose of faith to allow him to see the truth of God's deliverance. The original Hebrew word Elisha uses for “ open ” is pekaḥ פְּקַח . This is a special term for opening one's eyes in order to remove falsehood and let in truth. This type of seeing is about intellectual perception, not physical eyesight.
