Since the murder of G****e F***d, there have been calls to defund police departments all over this country, It is an understandable knee jerk reaction, but is totally counterproductive. The bottom line is you get what you pay for, so IMHO, raising salaries of rank and file officers will greatly reduce incidents police brutality for two reasons. By raising the paycheck, you will be able to attract a larger and more intelligent pool of applicants. It is well known among psychologists that a higher IQ correlates to a higher level of impulse control. That, plus the thought of losing a well paying job with a fat paycheck and fatter pension, is a strong incentive to walk the straight and narrow. Just check out the salaries of Nassau and Suffolk County police officers. With barely any overtime, they make well into the six figures after a few years. Maybe its a coincidence, but charges of police brutality are almost unheard of, even in lower income, minority neighborhoods

May be it's because there isn't all that much brutality in the first place.
We hear ALL the bad things in the news.
We NEVER hear the good things.

You are spot on. I have said the same thing for years. Same thing applies to teachers as well. I considered that years ago when fresh out of the service, but I could make more money driving a cab.

There still is far more than there should be. BTW, does the news report every airline flight that takes off and lands safely?
