I gave a ride to a senior citizen yesterday. She lives on $500.00 a month. She has worked all of her life but at low paying jobs. Saving for her retirement was not something she could do and pay her bills.
When we arrived at Social Services she was told to go home and try to get through on their phone. She explained she had done this for ten days. She was told "That is the only way you can hope to get an appointment. A male so called refuge drove to the office in a new suv. They accepted all his paper work and give him medicaid, food stamps, renewed his section 8 and told him the check would start in two weeks. I asked rather loudly, Is he even legal? I was told "We are not allowed to ask. I asked why I was helping someone who could afford a $500.00 car note. The lady told me she had no idea.
I pay a great deal of taxes. I would rather my money go to the hard working American people who need a little help than go to a criminal.
