Sorry, I'm just not a believer in gods or God. No need to argue about it, but I don't find such religious advice useful or productive. But I still haven't found a way to peacefully signify that in conversation without unleashing a reflexive urge to assert and proselytize from believers. And often I forget to pretend to be as reverential and accommodating as many believers expect one should be.

Apologies if my delivery seemed cavalier.

Why people insist on telling me such things, once they know I don't buy it remains something of a mystery. But, I suppose the real message is for the supposed reassurance of the Audience and onlookers. I'll just allow you to have that last word on it, if you wish.

This is kind of tongue in cheek, but equal to what? I do not mean to sound ridiculous, but please explain what you mean. In somewhat the same vein, I was reading our local paper here, the Appleton Post Crescent this morning and they listed I think it was 18 people shot by police-mostly on duty police-and the people shot all died. Most were in Milwaukee-this is only in WI, by the way, that the list included. OK, so these people all died at the hands of police, some for such things as blocking traffic-egad-or he guy who was sleeping on a park bench when the park was closed-not exactly a capital offense in my opinion. Anyway, so why were there not r**ts, burning buildings, marchers, and A****a people causing mayhem then? Seems to me they are pretty fussy about who they protest for. Mind you, I am not for all this thuggery going on, but what criteria do they use to determine when they are going to let it just pass, and when is it OK to ruin people's lives and jobs and property? Does that mean those who were k**led-and they were all black, by the way, those that were listed-and there was not a peep of protest don't "Matter"? This is certainly not about real r****m or police brutality, or anything they try to pin it on, or they would be more consistent, I would think. Thoughts?

No-it was a newspaper article pointing out the various instances of police brutality and over reaction, as I said, mainly in Milwaukee or its suburbs. I remember most of the instances when they were in the news at the time. The article goes from the year 2002 to the present. But I just wonder, if this r**ting in the cities of this nation is supposed to be because a black man was k**led by police, then why is the same level outrage not evident whenever ANYONE dies in police custody for what amount to petty crimes.

As an aside, the city of Appleton hosted about 1000 protesters yesterday afternoon, marched through the main part of Appleton, no arrests, no assaults, police re routed traffic so the marchers could move along-I understand some of those involved thanked the police for their protection-imagine-they actually appreciated that the police have a job to do, and the police respected the rights of these people to assemble and protest PEACEFULLY! Green Bay had the same experience, though I think one person was arrested, but alcohol may have been involved in that. SO it is possible to be civil, to make your point, to draw attention to your cause without being a thug or a terrorist. All is not lost, it seems. I believe there is another march scheduled for today. They end usually at a park downtown, and people speak, and some people chant, and people listen to the speakers. All very respectful. To be honest, I did not attend the protest-I do not belong there at my age, and would probably be in the way. Does not mean I do not appreciate their problem. One thing is good about this whole thing, I think. I do not watch TV much since this is all that is on-and before that, it was the v***s stuff-so that is good. I will not give those criminals tearing down years of work of honest citizens one second of attention-I think they should be spanked and sent to bed without supper for throwing tantrums.

Not worried about masks or social distancing! We need to protest that! March against tyrants! Won’t see the news saying c***d rampant because of this, just rampant in church!! See the difference?

Yup. George III would have had all them r****rs in Boston that threw all that tea overboard, shot. Though the last I heard, property crimes were not punishable by death anywhere in the United States. Legally, that is.

Frankly, I think we should forget about the death penalty in any case for any reason. Not that people who commit heinous crimes do not deserve to die sometimes horrible deaths, mind you, it is just that we get it wrong often enough that I do not trust that those sentenced to die are actually guilty. I think I have said it before on this forum-there is no justice in this country-most of those sentenced to die are of lesser economic means, and the attorneys representing them are not the brightest and best-sometimes public defenders who do not have enough, time resources, perhaps experience or money to mount a vigorous defense, and these hapless people are languishing in jail because they cannot afford the bail, while the rich and powerful spend probably 15 minutes in a cushy cell before a whole flock of attorneys descend to demand habeus corpus and bail and an apology-the difference is stark and we all know it.

Right on. We haven't had the death penalty in Vermont for as far back as I can remember (and I'm 88). That will confound most right wingers. But just to be fair, I should mention that we have few restrictions on fire arms and there are loads of 'em around, yet we have fewer that 500,000 homicides a year. 'way fewer, like about 499,996* fewer on average and some of them shouldn't count as they are shot by police. That will confound left wingers.
* I'll do the math for you. It's about 4.

Just anyone does not have a target on their back. Just anyone is not shot and k**led while unarmed routinely. When Roof shot up a church k**led nine people, the cops picked him up and stopped at Burger King to feed that k**ler before taking him to jail.

I am not sure what a 'jealousy" God would be or do, but not being a believer does not make you some sort of alien or something. I am a strong and conservative Christian, but I cannot recall ever insisting that unbelievers join me in praising Him-in fact, I prefer that you not, since it is more of a mockery than true praise. Not sure who you have in your circle of acquaintances, but the Christian faith does not condone asserting nor pretending anything. I believe there is a God, and I also believe that there are people who, for wh**ever reason, do not believe it. They will discover soon enough if they are correct or not.

Meanwhile, please do not pretend to believe something you do not believe, nor be reverential-for whose sake? The people you are dealing with? Why? Yoicks! No one should make you feel uncomfortable to the point that you feel you must hypocritically say you believe something you don't. In the interest of full disclosure, I will tell you that you will be in my prayers-nothing demanded of you-I will simply be talking to my Lord about you-and He knows all about it anyway, so not telling any tales here. And if, as you suggest, He does not exist, no harm, no foul, right? I wish you well, and please get a better more tolerant class of people as friends,
