[quote=Oceanjoe]I am a Socialist Democrat. I am against Citizens United, gutting the Voting Right laws, gerrymandering in all forms by all parties and against the oppression of minorities and poor people. I am disgusted with the Cult of Trump, the clingers, the 2d Amendment terrorists who seek to intimidate, the selfish conceit of American indulgence and the dribble that comes from those who would, or who used to, go to a lynching for entertainment.

Although this is my first time here and my "introduction," I looked around a bit and saw plenty of the above mentioned players. I am sure their first response is the classic, "if you don't like it here, why don't you leave?"
My first response to that is that in my heart, (at 15 in 1965) I walked to Selma with Dr. King and others. I intend to follow that march by moving forward, not backwards and not "out." (I am, full disclosure, a white guy, now 70 and have always positioned myself to be for social, economic and political justice through the balanced democratic process...if not through the basic humanitarian constructs of the social contract.)

My second response is to look those who would suggest I leave, to look them in the eye for a long 2 seconds and tell them I would rather kick them out. This country fought a civil war brokered on Hate and Hate lost...for a time...and not completely it would seem.

The essence of that war has resurfaced with the "punch him in the face" candidate, Charlottesville's 'fine people,' the Russian asset candidate, the 'babies in cages' president (low cap p) and all the other evil characteristics that will be spelled out in time.

Russia wasn't a hoax anymore than the virus is. 100,000 deaths is not a "good number." Swabs and masks should not be for sale to the highest bidder. The coming vaccine...if it comes...should not be made by a company whose stock is publicly traded. Late night tweets shining a light on a very "unstable genius" should not be humiliating or degrading anyone. A Real President would not sink to gutter tactics or language.

But this is the "Me" on this website and I intend to use it in a way that leads to only one conclusion. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you do, please contribute to the conversation.[

“dribble that comes from those who would, or who used to, go to a lynching for entertainment.”

Are you trying to say “DRIVEL WHICH” comes....etc.?

IMHO, if you cannot use the English language, you’re simply making yourself look stupid and unable to convince anyone of anything.

Further, to accuse people on this site, of being culpable (in any way) regarding “lynching”, places you at a level below whale excrement.

Hey, joe...I was hopeful when I saw your use of the Grateful Dead's logo...they were a pretty mellow bunch. But then you introduce yourself by tossing your bucket of warm, wet manure on everyone in the room. Happy trails...

I'm confused. Are there really people like this who even brag about being a socialist?

You have some interesting views. To me interesting=skewed. The civil war hate won. Slaves were only freed as an afterthought, it went like this: Lincoln needed more bodies on the line and there were no more white young men so black men. Was he just going to leave them as slaves after they had laid their lives on the line? No, he was a bit smarter. The 13th amendment proclaims no slaves? Well yes, but there is a second 13th amendment that's nothing like the one in the Constitution now, the question is which is the legal one. Btw, welcome. I was a first responder at 9/11 and lifer in the marines (50 years or so).

Welcome to the OPP. I am probably the opposite of everything you claim to be, since I have respect for our President, and do not use insulting names for him, nor did I for President Obama. Do not presume, by the way, that because I still have respect for the office and for the office holder because he or she is the choice of the majority of people in this country, that I am weak willed or ignorant. Name calling and personal insults are the work of a weak mind with a weaker argument to be made. Enjoy the ride-it gets bumpy at times, but you pick your battles. I am older than you by about 8 years or so, so we are of the same generation, at least. It will be interesting to read your posts, I think.
