I thought it worth mentioning that today in 1881 the Red Cross was founded. I remember when I was a kid, this organization was responsible for a lot of good, especially in teaching first aid courses in various schools, and to organizations like the Boy Scouts and Explorers. These folks are underrated; I don't know how many lives they can be credited with saving because someone knew how to help when it was needed because of their usually free training.

I have those same mixed emotions, they do bring in funding, and concentrate on gathering donated blood and work with families looking for their loved ones in the service etc. but I do wonder why their executives are paid the amount of money they are, along with wondering how much of the funding they get goes exactly where it should be going as they profess anyway.

I remember the boys coming home from WWII and they did not have a lot of good things to say about the Red Cross. They loved the Salvation Army.

Because the Red Cross charged them while they were serving overseas. They were told to do that by the government because the Brits didn't care for our soldiers getting free stuff.

They also charged soldiers overseas for blankets and coffee during the Vietnam War.

Oh I swear by the Salvation Army anything I donate goes to them along with funding. I once read 97% of what they bring in is put right back into the homeless or the shelters that they maintain for the homeless, giving homeless people jobs etc. I just find them superb and support them first, well and Wounded warriors. Another organization that has had some bad publicity over time but on the hole they really are for our vets...

God bless them is right I to volunteer time specifically on Thanksgiving to help serve our homeless and Christmas delivering packages of gifts for children in Poverty...Talk about humbling you and making you so grateful for everything you have or even don’t have.

I visit during the summer... Help with moving furniture and inventory...

I learned back in junior high how awesome those folk are... Volunteering was one of the best decisions I made back then...
