Up front - my dad was one of five siblings, and grew up to be the only Republican in the family. BUT, back then, family meant more than party. Today, it appears to me, people have lost sight of priorities for WHAT!, A POLITICAL PARTY AFFILIATION?

No doubt there are many of you who feel 'family first,' and have priorities that far out-weigh the nonsense of "Party Affiliation." I would like to hear your opinions.

Haven't seen a post from you in a LONG time. Yes, family is the glue that holds us together, or at least it should. Politics change and politicians bend with the wind, but, when (and if) you have a good family you are well blessed.

Hello SWMBO, no doubt it's 'family first' with you two wonderful people.

And, ZOM, I haven't been on OPP for a long time, but nice to meet another sensible person. I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Family always comes first...

The nation second...

Party affiliation is like a lodge... Good place to go when the wife starts lecturing

I have never been a member of a party and never will be. I have listened to far too many people blather on about their beliefs - that they got from someone else. Asking them to explain why they believe as they do, then getting an earful about the evils of the other party, not answering the actual question at all.

Most recently, as if I needed any more examples, I listened to members of my own family rail on and on about the evilness of their party's nominee..................then watched them v**e for the guy anyway. When I asked why, the answer I got was " well, I certainly couldn't v**e for the other party ". Why bother to form opinions or think for yourself, when in the end you're going to do what your party tells you to do?

You make a good point, but I ask you - how many choices are out there? Maybe the whole 'two party control,' needs to be shaken up. It has become such a money grabbing cabal that unless you are in the pocket of some corporate leader - what are your odds?

I've been blowing that horn for decades. Did you know that there are almost 100 registered political parties in the USA? No, most people don't, dems and repubs make sure it stays that way. Here's a little historical perspective; there was no democratic party in 1789, there was, however, a democratic republican party. There was no republican party until the 1860's and the moniker "grand old party ( gop )" was a slur. Then, in 1864, the democratic party and the republican party reached an agreement - that they would share power and cooperate to ensure that only people from their party, and hence under their control, would ever be elected to ANY office. This was when the two party sham was created.

Everyone has been indoctrinated to believe that we are a two party system of governance.........and that this is mandated in the Constitution. That could not be further from the t***h. The Constitution mandates that power resides in the individual STATES, and that the elected officials represent the people of their State - alone. A National party wielding power over individual States is un-Constitutional, and no amount of sleazy rationalizing, legalese or polti speak can make it so.

The only way to bring us back to Constitutionality, is to remove dems and repubs from every level of government, thus returning power to the people as the founders intended. This effort MUST start at the lowest local level and work upwards, trying to do so from the top down won't work, as it dilutes the will of the people.

YOUR QUOTE ABOVE, you are so right.

Thank The Good Lord I am 87 and most likely will not see the world go to 'hell in a hand basket,' but I may end up seeing far more evil and corruption than I care to see.

God, Family, Country, with party affiliation way down on the list (The Jack Acid Society)...

One must put God or One's Moral Compass first. How can we think about raising a family if we can't get our own house in order, first.

Second comes Family, because we now have a True Heart with Compassion, Honesty, and Love.

Third comes Country. We must protect our Family and ensure that they can grow up in a Country that will Honor their Freedom and Pursuit of Happiness.

As for Party Afilliation?

Walt Kelly (creator of Pogo and his pals in the Okefenokee Swamp) said it best:

[Quote]
"Resolve then, that on this very ground, with small f**gs waving and tinny blasts on tiny trumpets, we shall meet the enemy, and not only may he be ours, he may be us."

"We have met the enemy, and he is us."

The JACK ACID SOCIETY

"We are happy to announce that our position, the position of the JACK ACID SOCIETY, stands erect and proud before friend and foe.

In other words, we are for the RIGHT, although this is not to confuse our position with the false posturing of others.

There are some who sail under false colors, claiming they alone represent patriotism, mother, country, f**g, church.

Well, they ALL are undoubtedly subversive, out to destroy us, who truly believe.

As far as the eye can reach lie the peaceful and beautiful things we believe in, our heritage, limousines, country estates, . . . Others do not believe in these patriotic things.

As is generally known, WE are on GOD'S side and all who oppose us are against GOD! Now, let me make it quite clear, when you pick on GOD, you pick on ME! It's the same thing as picking on the f**g, almost. God is like that to me, kind of like a brother, sort of, you know, practically one of the family.

Defy us, disagree with us if you will, we will democratically throw you out of the group. You'll be on your own, without God, without the f**g, even without ME. You'll have only yourself to thank for such a calamity.

Now, some tend to confuse us with the opposition in our tactics. Nothing could be further from the t***h . . . let me delineate . . . just how one supposedly true conservative claimed that political direction and position have switched.

Suppose one had been on the LEFT of the road. Well, you must bear in mind the road has shifted over.
Thus, according to this fellow, the new road goes through his OLD position, he's in the MIDDLE now.
OKAY, suppose he used to be RIGHT of center, the road goes the OTHER WAY for the conservative, right?
And the RIGHT SIDE of THAT old road is the LEFT Side of the same old road going the OTHER WAY.

So you find when the road shifts to its RIGHT it goes through the LEFT spot OR its OLD RIGHT spot making THAT the middle of the road, too.

UNDERSTAND?

On their face, these figures may seem quite orderly and understandable. The fact is, however, they mean just the opposite of the conclusion drawn." [end quote]
