At one of the press conferences last week, Dr. F***i stated that people can t***smit c****av***s to dogs, but dogs can't t***smit it to people. Does that make sense?

I reckon that I'd ask him if his opinion was based on solid scientific studies, anecdotal evidence, or

just the seat of his pants? Either way, I suspect that there will be a v*****e for dogs long before

one is approved for humans.

Believe he said that while there is evidence that dogs can be infected, there I no evidence that they can t***smit it to humans...

Medical speak for "we're not sure but here's what we don't know"...

What he should have said:

We are currently studying that issue, in about 18 months we hope to have some answers to those questions.

Isn't that about the size of it?

My apologies, I should have worded my question better. I don't really care what Dr. F***i said except his statement made me wonder. Is it possible for a v***s to have one-way interspecies t***smission? Are there any known examples? Is it common? Rare?

I've looked a little on the internet but oddly can't find anything. Maybe I'm searching on the wrong phrases, I don't know.

I couldn't help... Not familiar enough with the field.... But I would think that it should be able to pass both ways...

As I remember my college biology classes (a million years ago) There are some species of animals that can harbor a v***s without having it affect the host animal. however, the host animal can pass the v***s on, in a deluted and less active state to another species. Often this v***s as passed on is not strong enough to be a threat to the new species but might actually strengthen the immunity of the newly entered species. However, college biology courses were years ago, and information changes and old brains like mine forget much so please correct me if I am wrong. I do know that v******tions given to both dogs and livestock where the contents are not a k**led v***s but a weakened one do provide better immunity to the reccipient animal. The only problem with this live v*****e is that the animal may go off feed or be slightly under the weather for a couple of days after the v******tion which is why they always tell dog breeders to get the modified live shots a week or two before expected possible exposure, such as at a dog show.

Yes, dogs don't know morse code so have trouble communicating anything.

I still maintain that the way some people handle their dogs and the dogs of others, t***smission is possible. More then a hand shake we are supposed to avoid. More then the handle on the bathroom door or the handle on the grocery cart. I'm talking about the way people nuzzle dogs and allow for face kissing and then the dog does it all with someone else. Yes, that v***s if it is on your breath or hands, can be t***sfered to the dogs saliva and or fur and immediately to another human. Might have to be quicker then the toilet door but how could it not be possible. That is the Question.

I'm Logically Right

While I agree with your assessment, you didn't answer my question. You're equating a dog to any other surface on which the v***s can live for a while.

I'm asking if a dog who is infected with c***d can t***smit it to people, just as an infected person can t***smit it to other people (and dogs, according to F***i).
